I personally do not like using heading in my essays, but I have seen many academic and formal essays with headings, so I think it comes down to personal choice. As far as using facts in essays, yeah you should absolutely use facts to support your arguments. But on the other hand graphs are not used in essays, but instead of drawing the graph you can always summarise what the graph is about.
