ISLAMABAD: Senate Functional Committee on Government Assurance on Tuesday pointed to “negligence” on compliance with earlier directives of the Upper House on raising the upper age limit for competitive examinations.

Taking notice of non-compliance with regards to raising the upper age limit for CSS to 30 years from 28 years, Committee Chairman Senator Agha Shehbaz Durrani said that the directives are supposed to be complied with in a time span of a maximum 30 days.

He asked the fellow senators if a year is going to be wasted for individuals seeking to apply for CSS as the process of receiving applications for CSS examinations begins in the first week of September.

Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Manzoor Ali Khan responded that the outcome of the earlier ruling of Senate will be commented upon after meeting with the minister for state and discussing with him the same.

Secretary Establishment Nadeem Ahsan Asif said that the notice for earlier ruling was not received while the committee should have made it clear that the Minister for State has to be taken on board.

Senator Azam Khan Musa Khel said that from the responses of secretaries it is clear that the Minister for State has shown negligence. Durrani said if the process is delayed for next year then those candidates who would feel left out may resort to extremism.

The session for raising the upper age limit for CSS examinations was adjourned for July 7 while it was stressed that the committee should then be informed completely with regards to compliance.

Commenting on negligence Durrani said that we shall wait for next meeting to see whether it was the case of negligence or that the Minister for State issued orders that were not brought into compliance by the bureaucracy.
