Your teacher has rightly advised you. But, like he said, starting with religious examples certainly doesn't mean that you support or deject school of thoughts. It could be dangerous for you if you do so even in Islamiat paper. Having said that, depending upon the topic, you can start the essay with aforementioned things. My mentor Sir Tashfeen Alam (PAS-42nd batch) told me that one can start with historical background only if he is profound with its knowledge. Stating with examples requires consistent practice of essays with said writing style. Lastly, don't do any experiment in exam ! Use simple and correct English as well and be on the track of the topic.
