Why democracy fails in Pakistan?
Introduction:
Pakistan came into being on august 14, 1947 with the predefined aim to become a Democratic Republic. But unfortunately, since after the demise of its founding father M A Jinnah, it has fallen into the hands of feudal lords, military establishment and bureaucracy. Whether a democratically elected government is in office or a military chief is heading the state, whether a government is installed in replacing the incumbent one or a coup staged in a dark night promising democracy within 90 days. , it matters little to democracy in Pakistan. There remains the question as to why democracy fails every time? The question is simple but needs a detailed answer.

A. Democracy in Pakistan; a flashback of democracy under civil and military regimes.
a. Staggering democracy after the demise of Quaid.
b. Ayub khan’s epoch-making entry into political office.
c. Yahya khan’s incompetence to handle democratic transition of power.
d. ZA Bhutto’s tyrant democracy
e. Zia’s phoney Islamisation
f. Nawaz and BB’s undemocratic alternating terms
g. Musharraf coup
h. Democracy after Musharraf

B. Why would the democracy fail every time, be it military government or democratic?
a. Feudalistic mindset of politicians and dictators.
b. Poverty and illiteracy of masses
c. Poor economy and bad governance lead to more undemocratic conditions
d. Internal and external security threats.

C. How do we bring true democracy to Pakistan? There are two ways.
1. By changing from the top, wait for the rise of a Khomeini, Stalin or Abraham Lincoln to end feudalism
2. By changing from the bottom
a. Educate the masses to end the brutal cycle of poverty, education and weak democracy
b. Overhaul the economic policies, prioritize micro industry not macro industry, to bring economic prosperity to common people.
c. Institutional reforms to ensure good governance
d. Free judiciary and Media to ensure justice, freedom and human rights.

D. A bird-eye view of democracy in neighboring India and Iran, and comparison with Pakistan
E. Conclusion:
In a nutshell, it appears that cardinal factors that hinders true democratic values are illiteracy and poverty of common masses. That leads to election of incompetent representatives and their bad governance. But it is truly said that every problem has a solution. So we need to educate our masses and a complete overhaul of our economic policies and clear policies about border defense and tackling terrorism at home, ultimately leading to good governance, a block to the military interventions and true democracy.
