Graduation condition deprived 97pc of voters from contesting elections: AG
ISLAMABAD: The graduation condition deprived around 97 percent of eligible voters of their democratic right to contest the polls, Attorney General (AG) Malik Qayyum said on Friday. Pleading for the removal of the law at the hearing of a petition challenging the graduation condition, he said the country had 68.1 million voters, of whom only 2.6 million (3.2 percent) were graduates. The SC bench directed the AG to submit complete data about total population, registered voters and registered graduates, especially province-wise, at the next hearing on Monday. There are 0.2 million graduates in the NWFP, 10,174 in the Tribal Areas, 1.22 million in the Punjab, 0.9 million in Sindh, 58,000 in Balochistan and 73,937 in Islamabad.
