One recent example of the proxy war is the role of Turkey in the Syrian Crisis. Turkey shot down the fighter planes of Russia in Syria. Many analyst say that Syrian war is a flight between US and Russia but US is fighting through Turkey (proxy) not directly.



Similarly in history, Pakistan remained US proxy in Afghan war against Russia in post 1979 period.
