Yes some previously important topics aren't mentioned in the syllabus, specially of era before WWI. New syllabus clearly focus post WWII portion and 2016 paper substantiates it with 4 questions from this portion (5 out of 7 from post WW1 era). 2016 paper was striclty according to the syllabus outline. But you should always expect the unexpected from FPSC. So i would recommend you to first have firm grip over the syllabus and then, if you can manage 2,3 days, cover those topics that were frequently asked in previous papers but aren't mentioned now like Federalist regime, Jefferson democracy, Jackson's era, monroe doctrine, war of 1812, manifest destiny, issue of slavery and important presidents.
