They asked pretty basic questions of finance.. Like what's balance sheet, income statement, depreciation, par value, book value, joint stock, equity, sunk cost, etc.

Mine went bad, I did not refresh basic concepts but instead prepared for advanced questions which are posted in this thread. Pure badluck.

Are you a finance majors??? I am having marketing background and completely nil about finance as i studied only 1 subject of Finance in life time

Please guys, those of you who have given thier initial interviews, please tell us a bit about the technical questions asked. were they basic ones like what is balance sheet type? or were they advanced ones? like NPL's and stuff?

4.What does Beta mean please explain.

please answer the questions as they are the most asked interview questions.I was aksed these in MCB and a lecturer post interview.

Done with the initial interview, ALHAMDOLILLAH it went very good.
After introduction they asked my major & than they started throwing questions at me, around 40 questions they asked.
1. Introduce yourself?
2. Your Major?
3. Balance Sheet?
4. Financial ratios that are derived from balance sheet?
5. Cash flow statement?
6. Derivatives?
7. Bond?
8. Zero coupon bond?
9. Convertible bonds?
10. GDP?
11. Differentiate between nominal & real GDP?
12. What is discount rate?
13. Internal rate of return (IRR)?
14. Net present value (NPV)?
15. IRR & NPV are used for?
16. Relation between IRR & NPV?
17. Nominal & real interest rate?
18. Consortium financing?
19. Contingent liabilities?
20. Where contingent liabilities are shown?
21. Treasury stock?
22. Differentiate between mergers & acquisition?
23. Book value of asset?
24. Depreciation?
25. Types of depreciation?
26. Hedging?
27. Written down value of an asset?
28. Sunk cost?
29. Primary & secondary markets?
30. Short term & long term securities?
31. Types of dividends?
32. What is regular dividend & special dividend?
33. Spread?
34. What is beta?
35. Differentiate between systematic & unsystematic risk?
36. Monetary policy?
37. Weighted cost of capital?
38. Standard deviation (risk & return)?
39. Correlation (risk & return)?
40. Matching principle?
41. Materiality concept?
42. President of Askari bank?
Go through the profile of askari bank & read a little about their financial performance, they asked me about their financials.
There were more questions but these I remember, you guys better be prepared.

this is so tough.. i mean to recall all, & answer it correctly at the spot is quite difficult.

Sure, it is very difficult. I’m good in finance :p
They start with basic question like balance sheet, discount rate etc & then gradually increase the difficulty level (my experience).
You must have studied all these terms, all u need to do is revise them & if your major is finance then it won’t be that easy, honestly.

17: Primary and Seconday Market

18: Underwriting

19: Contingent Liabilty and where it is disclosed

Thank you , I appeared for interview in Rawalpindi and I was asked nearly all the same question . The interviewers try to confuse you and its like a rapid fire round one question after an other
Money Market, Capital market
Sunk cost, Depreciation,Writing price,
Primary Market, secondary Market,
Hedge Funds,derivatives, KIBOR, discount rate,
Nominal interest and real interest,
IPOs, NPV and IRR,
CAPM, Beta, Market Risk, Systematic Risk, operations risk, WACC,
and all the questions are imposed in a manner to create confusion.
