This, i believe, was an encroachment upon us, the people having social sciences background.
This change will obviously go a long way unless fpsc gives up its bizarre criteria of high and low score of markings subjects. Regards...Farrukh Aziz
Bro docs don't study social sciences and social science students don't study medical science subjects. So it doesn't matter. I am an engineer and I had to pick subjects that I never studied, I had to write a lot in the exams and we don't focus on writing at all during engineering studies. We compete with people who have degrees in such subjects. The main thing for success in CSS is your interest in the subjects, if you have an interest in them and willing to put in the hours, then good marks will be your destiny whether you are a doctor, engineer or a social scientist.

Though FPSC has tried to eliminate the previously preferred combinations of subjects by introducing new subjects and putting old subjects in one group, yet much needed reformation will come with objectivity in marking and creating level playing field for all candidates. FPSC must have to ensure not to make one optional paper too easy and other too difficult. Secondly, trend of scoring and non-scoring subjects must be ended once and for all. Thirdly, marks of objective and subjective portions must be shown separately in the result card. At last, I suggest to demarcate 100 marks of essay paper into different categories like quality of stuff, sentence structure, presentation, clarity of idea, etc. and show marks in these categories in the result card so that candidate can have the idea in which area he is weak or strong.

Change is never easy. But we must 'consume and adapt'.

Its imperative to keep pace with the changing world. And at least we should appreciate FPSC, that they are updating there syllabus and paper pattern with changing circumstances.

As the FPSC is trying to make things less unclear, I think it should be only offered in English now - keeping in view that the syllabus is mentioned in English and there is no note stating that the subject may be opted in Urdu too. But in either case, it would be much wiser to prepare the subject in English now.
