What do you do if a question's statement is wrong in CSS exam?
In 2013 Philosophy 2 exam, this question was asked:
State and examine the main features of Dialectical Materialism as enunciated by Hegel. Now this question is wrong. The concept of Dialectical Materialism was put forward by Karl Marx and not Hegel who had actually put forward only the concept of Dialectics. What do you do in this? Should we mention that there is an error in the question, correct it and attempt it or leave it altogether? |

Yes, you are right, that questions is wrongly put.
I am amazed at paper setter that he made such a mistake, he must have known that Marx materially interpreted the dialectical method of G.W.F Hegel thus called Dialectical Materialism, Hegel's is mere Dialectical Method. As far as your query is concerned, I would suggest you not to attempt such a question, making a correction is not a way, rather it may lead the things awry. so never attempt such a question which is wrongly put, either in substance or in wording because in the end its you who has to face the music, not examiner.

First of all, don't attempt the question of wrong statement in any case.
Secondly if it is compulsory question then solve the question without clarity. Don't try to get full marks. Solve it but don't be concrete. May be examiner point of view is correct according to his book or knowledge. So getting 12/20 marks is better than taking risk for 2-3 extra marks. Means skip that point in answer which is wrong according to you. Thirdly if u are 100% sure that there is mistake in question and you want to get full marks. Then give note / assumption in start of answer by correcting the question. But it is very risky because if there is error in question, credit will be given for error by examiner. And you corrected the question but actually it was correct. Then you will be in radar of examiner. So being average is better in this case. |
