Hi...
I think army officers can not appear in the css exams. As the the Armed forces have a fixed quota in the central superior service. The officers are selected by the Armed forces officials by what we are told are departmental exams.So i think you should check with your high ups. Normally when one attains the rank of a captain one is sent in the civil service although there have been exceptions and officers with the rank of Majors were sent in the civil service. Regards

Welcome to the FORUM, you would be updated by the information with a smile. While keep in mind, you should have an written approval for appearing in CSS from GHQ of Army, otherwise you would have to face the official hardships. You can appear but you need an approval from your deptt. i.e Army.

There are two ways for Army personnel to be CSP;
i). they have special quota as mentioned by Mumtaz Maneka ii). for appearing for CSS through open merit you need to get approval from your department, as enumerated by surmount yes yes you would be getting regular updation.
