i wan to know what is the ideal length of answer of 20 marks question and the length of essay paper.

seniors please comment.

It varies from question to question, but in my opinion the average length should be at least 6 to 8 pages. And a CSS level candidate must be able to write the answer of that length without beating about the bush and dealing with the exact topic.

And as for as Essay is concerned, there is no length limitation. If you can describe the topic in just 5 pages you can, but you have to include all the essential points and angles in your essay.

dear length hardly matters atleast in subjective questions of css but ur valid aruguments n analytical skills r measured in almost all papers...its not an secondary school exam wher quantity matters n not da quality...n ther is no rule dat u r suppose to write say 8 pages or 10 pages for a 20 marks question if u write valid arguments n all points covered in even 4 pages u wil get a gud credit whereas if u rite even 15 pages for any particular question but irrelevant u wil get nuthin ...
same goes for essay bt normally they give words limit of 3000 to 5000 words for essay which is equivalent to 15 to 20 pages ...

For essay,limit of words is 2500-3500.

I think the length matters as well, not for examiner but for candidate, to decide how far he has to go for a particular question. The appropriate length of a 20 marks question is, in my view, should be 600 - 800 words. If a person writes 100 words per page that means he have to write around about 6 to 8 pages.

For essay the credit is given on quality, coherence, length and relevency. So length matters here as well, may be less. one should try to write 3000 words but this is not easy as most of the time from first hour is given to outline. So i think above 2000 words with relevency and argumentative structure would be enough.

Let's see what other opin for this case.

(I request, instead of speaking about pages, talk about words as number of words (around about) varies hence page numbers does not make the things clear)

dear there is no hard n fast rule for dat it keeps on changing
for example
in 2007 words limit for english essay paper wz 4000-5000 word u can confirm it by seeing sum original paper printed by fpsc
in 2009 it wz 2500-3500 n u can also confirm it by hvin original fpsc's printed question papers n not da ones available in mrkt

so on average 3000-5000 u can select any slab between dez two figures bt frankly quantity hardly matters ive seen pple writing 6 pages n passin essay paper n ive also seen pple writin 30 pages n still unable to score even passin marks

if one how much to write then he/she can focus on the length while remaining focused on the topic...

@raju: 6pages means 12 sides... because 1 page has got 2 sides.

no dear, 6 pages means 6 sides. A page is one side, two sides are called a leaf. so 6 pages means 3 leaves.

What i wanted to convey you is to tell you that it depends on the candidate, if he thinks can write the satisfactory answer in 6 pages, he can. And if he thinks can write 2 pages satisfactory answer, there is no limitation, and if he thinks that he can write 6 pages satisfactory essay from each angle can write.

By 1 page, i mean only one page or one side of the paper.

For Everyday Science subject, you have to write keeping the marks in your mind. For example: Few questions are credited only 1 or 2 marks, so you can not write few pages for that, your few lines answer is enough for that question. And if a question is credited 10 marks, your answer should not cross 2 to 3 pages maximum.
