Smile Impact of certificates and subjects on group allocation?

Do different certificates (seminars, workshops, etc) possessed by a candidate, have any impact on group allocation?

And secondly, does your choice of optional subjects have any influence on your group allocation?

Or is it just that you should perform well in all the exams and above mentioned factors don't really matter at all? Wondering.

According to me, Your different certificates just impress your interviewer considerably. they tell your interviewers about your interests, abilities, vocations and potentials. they may ask you questions related to your certifications, for which your fluent replies would impress them for sure.

your subjects wont help you in any other way except in giving you marks accordingly, which will surely prove decisive in your allocation.
moreover, during interview too, your interviewers would be more likely to ask you questions from your subjects. e.g, if you had opted Geography, they may ask you locations of certain places, and if you couldn't answer them correctly, that would be a negative point for you.

hope this would help.

A good profile has a good impact but it matters only if one proves by his performance in written and during viva. By attending different workshops you will earn a lot in terms of communication and presentation skill which you will have to re-present during viva.
Optionals can be helpful if one manages to respond questions on the base of his study of optional subjects. e.g. IR helped me during my interview in 2011 as I was asked some technical questions but on the same time they asked me these questions because IR was my optional. So in my opinion it doesn't matter "what" you have to do what matters is "how" you do it.
