the answer to this question ll vary from person to person
just one point,, u said "" there is acute shortage of doctors in this country'''' do u think so just visit any teaching hospital of the country and u ll find scores of doctors working on honourary basis go to country side n u ll find empty rural health centers the pb is not with th no of doctors but with the working conditions which the docotrs are provided with

I guess it's better to make a decision now rather than in five years. For the doctor-is-good argument, one could also say that there are far less good CSPs in the country than there are good doctors, and that a CSP can make a far greater contribution towards the society than a doctor can. But being a CSP without wanting to be one (as your post suggests that you want to do css just to make your parents happy) can only make you worse off......
and if you do want to do css even after the mbbs, it's perhaps better not to deny the seat to someone who really wants to practice afterward :-) but again.... mbbs can be a good fall back plan if anything bad happens on the way to becoming a CSP...... but once again...... fall back plans tend make you weak - burnt boats can sometimes be a great incentive!

@Sixth Sense
Questions of this type roam in many minds and people often get confused. I believe one can not get the perfect answer from anywhere else but from his/her own heart. If you feel more intersted in doing MBBS then go for it. I think one can't compare the profession of doctor etc. with a CSP as far as career progress and stability, public service, privileges, social esteem etc are concerned. Both have pros and cons. But I am afraid going after some career only on parents' advice can be a cause of dissatisfaction and discontent in one's professional life, which I belive is disastrous.
My advice is to follow your heart (and if it isn't in accordance with your parents' wish, discuss with them and try to convince them) and move forward with complete confidence and the blessings of your parents.

You should always follow what your heart wants you to do...I think every ones parents want to see them successful and prosperous in life and they have their own concepts about it. You can be a good flourishing doctor and make your parents proud by following your heart's desire. If you start doing something which you actually dont want to do then things will become burden.
