Dear kingfalcon & muhammadshahee mostly engineers opt for public administration wid one history subject(i recommend U.S.history) political science n if u find political science difficult which im sure u wont den opt for sociology, journalism instead and last two subjects i recommend r international law n constitutional law..this is da best combo i recommend to both of u...pure science subjects arent gud n engineers/doctors perform realy gud in dez social science subjects..Gud Luck

Do not touch Mathematics and Physics if you are not expert in these subjects.During our Engineering, they do not teach us every topic, whether it be related to Physics or mathematics. One should choose Mathematics and Physics if they have a masters degree in these subjects.otherwise one should not choose them if they want to be on safe side in exams.

IR
Public administration
Geography
sociology
journalism
Constitutional Law
U.S history
Indo-pak history
Islamic history are good subjects.

Choice is yours.

Regards

@ SV and Saad
I agree that Physics and Maths are technical subjects but if one give some proper time to them then one can gain solid marks in it.
Also it looks a bit difficult in the start but once you start preparing it these are very easy subjects and the whole paper comes from specific books e.g; last ten years Mechanics is from Q K Ghouri even the questions variables are not even changed.
Similar is the case with Physics and Engineers should opt it rather than studying a subject like Geography etc of which they havn't touched a single topic in their graduation. However what we find problem in Subjects like Physics and Maths is that they take a long time to be prepared and you either get good marks or bad depending upon your preparation.

Thats all what I think up till now.

Yes... science subjects give solid marks... The only problem would be to study a bit harder.. because once you get the hold of solid marks subjects... then you are on top.. Infact I'm not wrong many Doctors and Engineers are top position holders in css exams..

For all the Electrical Engineers, who are in state of dilemma on selecting there optionals..

Dear fellows,
I m also going to wind up my engineering in electrical in September, 2011.
It is really a considerable problem for the engineers that, what to opt ? A proper and planned subject selection is key to success, but most of the aspirants are seemed to be overcoming this crucial stage without analyzing themselves. subject selection should be according to ones academic back ground, aptitude, motivation, guidance and above all ones interest in the certain subject.

1st step is self analysis..

you must go for a subject that is according to your taste.. put a question to yourself that "Am i meant for this certain subject? if your taste and interest permit you then simply go for it, without looking elsewhere.

The success in c.s.s demands your different and self based approach towards the solution of any problem. criticism is appreciated the most in the c.s.s that does not come without strong base and making of ones own opinion.. if subjects is according to your nature and mind set then all the things come automatically that are mentioned above.

keep one thing in your mind please.

An engineer's brain always supports numerical stuff so called engineering, also engineers have better aptitude to design and solve the problems of numerical nature than any other student who belongs to basic sciences.

According to me physics is better opportunity for electrical engineers than any other subject regarding social sciences, law and languages.

To justify my statement let me took a look on syllabus of physics. first, vectors and coordinate systems come, that we have covered in electromagnetic theory comprehensively. then fluid dynamics, at F.Sc level we have read all that, now we are only required to enhance the boundary of our knowledge, then the major portion of Electronics is included in physics, all of that we have covered in basic engineering circuit analysis, digital electronics and operational amplifiers. waves and oscillation is also coped in the energy propagation, and above all we know better about electricity and electromagnetism than any one else.
just a little portion of atomic physics is out of our knowledge that can be prepared in 5 days completely.

NOW what harasses you?

bhai. don't under estimate your technical skills and go for physics, but keep your interest on 1st priority..

However it is better to opt physics than social sciences, politics, law and any other subject that you have never read..
REMEMBER:
A soldier never wins who leaves his home ground.

Physics also helps in everyday science a lot. that is a plus point of it..

computer can also be taken but if you find yourself skilled enough to opt it because its syllabus is quite wide and a one third portion is specified from software engineering.
Mathematics can also be taken into consideration if you are good in it.

i shall not counsel anyone for other optional subjects, because all other subjects are equally farther from the boundary of our knowledge as far as engineering is concerned..

for further intentional and reliable contact, you can join the group "Engineers INN" on the same forum, that is maintained by me especially for engineers.

Well I am also an Electrical Engineer and am planning to appear for CSS exams! I have been reading a lot of blogs/threads/comments lately regarding what electrical engineers should opt for (talking about optional subjects).
I also inquired about selecting subjects from many who have appeared in CSS.
First of all one thing should be kept in mind, that CSS is all about scoring high marks, passing papers wont help it! So physics and Applied Maths are the subjects which if prepared well, can lead to a high scoring grade sheet!
Secondly physics for Electrical engineers should be a piece of cook especially paper-B. So no need to get afraid of physics! Go for it. I am also going for it.
And about Applied Maths, well i have been advised by many that if u go for applied Maths u can score high, but u need to practice it a lot! and a lot means A LOT!!!!

Thanks alot for your advice bro and may you succeed with a very high merit.. Yes, I understand.. Our dilemma as engineers is that we are jack of all trades but master of none.. I would never even think of Mathematics or Chemistry as they are quite clearly out of my reach but I chose Physics as I am interested in the subject since my childhood and have studied it a bit as well in my school, college and a bit in university also.. I checked its past papers and I have to admit that it is somewhat risky.. So I checked Geography and I think it is not a bad subject if adequate time is given to it.. But could you please tell me about the answers to be given in its Part 2 of both the papers? I mean to say is that you have 2.5 hrs to do 4 questions which is roughly about 35 minutes per question if you take away the decision making time.. So are we supposed to write alot in their answers or just a few relevant sentences/diagrams would suffice?
