Default How Publishers deceive

Having gone through this forum thoroughly I have found that there is no advice or information on how to buy books (which will usually cost many aspirants thousands of rupees). Being someone who has spent much on useless books, I can tell you that don't believe everything you hear. I have worked with a few publishers myself and wanted to give an insight in the publishing industry. First of all, many publishers will force you to sell your material to them and they put their own as the writer. For example Caravan publishers owner’s name is ahmed najeeb and supposedly many books are written by him. Same is the case with advanced publishers. These people cannot even write a line let alone a book. Unfortunately, due to financial reasons I had no choice but to sell my notes to them, as is the case with many writers. Over the years I have seen many new editions of my work which was not revised by me. This is why many of the books you see in the market are full of errors as they are usually revised on the cheap. Furthermore, publishers and writers monitor these forums. Most of the people who are recommending books on this forum are publishers themselves.

Here are a few things I wish someone had told me when I was preparing for the exams.

1. Do not believe everything you hear on this forum.
2. Don't get tricked by the bookseller. They will always try to sell you the book which will give them the most profit.
3. Do not buy a book blindly. Go through its contents first and then decide.
4. A good book takes time to publish, and seeing that the syllabus changed recently don't blindly buy the first book which is available. Think yourself ‘how can a book be published this quickly’. In America it takes more than a year to publish a book, while here it usually takes 1 week.
Lastly,
5. Do not buy DOGAR Books. They are the pinnacle of bad quality.

Thanks Soul star for reflecting on your experience. Such kind of post was badly needed, especially after the changed syllabus.

Just five days after the announcement of new syllabus by the FPSC, Jahangir publishers announced a new book related to Pakistan Affairs (I don't know the exact title). I wonder, how can they be so quick? Academies and publishers are striving towards one goal - deceiving and looting aspirants and filing their own coffers. These new books are nothing more than an old wine in a new bottle.

In my opinion, aspirant should only rely on genuine knowledge.

Agree totally. I have never put my trust in these sub standard books. And as far as preparation for CSS is concerned, concerning these books is out of question. Its good to have international books and some good quality books of some Pakistani scholars in the recommendation in the new syllabus.

You have presented the bitter realities of the publishers. I do agree with you. That's why I have always been believing in my own notes and I will love to work at my own for the new syllabus and subjects by net and reference books. After all, publishers also do similarly in making books. However, it is indeed a quality and flawless book takes ages to complete.

Yes,Instead of spending thousands to buy books to cram.I am going to rely on internet. It's good for downloading books which were written by actual authors. The CSS exam does not ask for facts it asks for our opinion based on those facts. And if one was too busy in mugging up the information, they didn't find time to formulate their opinion.
FPSC said that 13 percent of students had outdated knowledge. Thanks to these lousy books.

you nailed it man. I second you. having engineering background, I have a habit to read a single article from different online sources or E-books of foreign authors because I don't trust Pakistani writers. Pakistani books are usually plagiarized from foreign books. After I decided to appear in CE-2016. I started searching online books related to css, then I came across this forum. I joined this forum and read hundreds of posts on books suggestions of compulsory and optional subjects. I found many people suggesting Jahangir's books for compulsory as well as optional subjects. Due to shortage of time, I decided to go with Jahangir published books. I purchased their books of Pakistan affair, Essays and their quarterly journal. But I was astonished to see that their content were just copy paste from internet. Their quarterly journal is nothing but a compiled version of domestic and international news papers. Even they claimed some article in this book written by JWT desk. But in reality they copied these articles from online journals websites. So I decided not to purchase any book by any publisher and now I am searching online for preparation of compulsory and optional subjects. As it is my first attempt, I can't recommend any thing to new aspirants, but don't trap yourself in these useless books and try to prepare your own notes by consulting different books written by well known writers. you can search for quality books on google by checking their reviews on amazon books shelf.
