District Management Group or DMG, is an elite cadre of the Civil Service of Pakistan. Officers in this group are recruited through a competitive examination held once a year by the Federal Public Service Commission[1] of Pakistan. Those selected for this group have to undergo a two-year training programme at the Civil Services Academy (CSA) in Lahore, Pakistan.
Appointments Officers, after completing their initial training/probation at the CSA are posted in the field offices throughout Pakistan in BPS 17 Grade appointments. Their first appointment is usually as Assistant Commissioner of a sub-division. They also simultaneously hold the charge of Deputy Collector (Revenue) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Subsequently as they progress in their careers, DMG Officers are placed on a variety of field, staff/secretarial and instructional appointments. Some of them against the BPS grades are enumerated as: * BPS 17: Assistant Commissioner/Sub-Divisional Magistrate/Deputy Collector (Revenue) in the field, Section Officer in Secretariat, or Deputy Director of an agency * BPS 18: Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate/Collector (Revenue) for a smaller district, Deputy Secretary in provincial secretariat, or Director of an agency . * BPS 19: Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate/Collector (Revenue) for a large district, Additional Secretary in provincial secretariat, Director General of an agency, or Federal Deputy Secretary. * BPS 20: Commissioner of a Division, Provincial Secretary, or Federal Joint Secretary. * BPS 21: Additional Chief Secretary of Province, or Additional Secretary in Federal Secretariat * BPS 22: Chief Secretary of Province, or Federal Secretary source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_Management_Group The District Management Group (DMG) is generally considered to be the most prestigious of the numerous civil service “occupational groups” in Pakistan. Even now, in a period which is generally considered to be one of decline for the civil services,3 more than 80 percent of the candidates in the annual competitive examination opt for DMG as their first choice. rest can read from this link http://www.scribd.com/doc/14805239/D...kistan-Studies

After getting majesterial powers, it is hoped that DMG will again be the top priority of candidates.
Do all DMGs initially appointed as DDOs or they can also be posted in secreteriates?

Yes powers of Judicial Magestrate will be great but thats not going to happen!
Apex courts have decided to separate judiciary from administration. In view of this they have already delegated the powers under section 30 of Crpc to Civil Judges. Therefore its highly unlikely that DMGs will enjoys the same powers as they enjoyed before devolution. Further, District Management Group's specialization is revenue collection. Its because of over burdening them with other duties like price controlling, sasti rooti , project management of development schemes etc. that they screw almost every thing.

Please read the following
QUETTA, Nov 23: The Balochistan government has restored executive magisterial powers of deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners with immediate effect.
Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi promulgated the Criminal Procedural Code (CrPC) Amendment Ordinance 2010-III in this regard on Tuesday night. Under the amended ordinance all deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners may exercise executive magisterial powers in the province. Official sources said the ordinance was presented to the governor after its approval by the provincial cabinet because Balochistan assembly was not in session. Under the law, deputy commissioners and assistant commissioners in all 30 districts of the province would be empowered to hear cases in which the accused could be sentenced for up to three years. At least 67 sections of the CrPC have been amended and schedules III and V of criminal procedure 1898 have been amended too. Now cases of price hike, black marketing and law and order will be decided without any delay in the courts of deputy commissioners and assistant commissioner, benefiting the people. Executive magisterial powers of deputy and assistant commissioners had been abolished under the Local Bodies Ordinance 2002 issued by the-then president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf who had introduced offices of city, district and town nazims. Balochistan was the first province to abolish the offices of district, city and town nazims and it has now taken the lead in restoring the executive magisterial powers of the top district and tehsil officers.
