1. indian ocean is on the south of it border
2. it may play as a conduit for central asian landlocked countries
3. it can also give route to China for its southern province sinkyang, which is only 1700 km away from arabian ocean but 3500 km from its own china sea and shanghai city
4. pakistan is an important route for American and Nato supply
5. pakistan is very near to persian gulf. from here pakistan can affect world oil supply which is carried through this route.
6.pakistan is close to afghanistan where war on terrorism is being fought by world powers. it can affect their policies too.

there are some other stratigic importance too.

I think take the perspectives you will find the strategic importance of pakistan automatically

economic perspective;
Growing economic importance of china, proximity to pakistan

Trade opportunities in Central Asian Countries.

Sea roat to Oil rich Gulf countries.

Defence Perspectives
To counter any uprising from Soviet Union, pakistan strategically plays an important role for western powers like USA.

Afghanistan crisis cannot be solved without intervention of Pakistan.

Being a nuclear country, pakistan has importance in South Asian region for check the balance of power of countries like India.
