Contemporary Affairs by Imtiaz Shahid VS CARVAN Publishers
Dear Seniors
What is your opinion about Contemporary Affairs by Imtiaz shahid and Contemporary Affairs by Carvan Publishers. Which one is better? I have gone through Imtiaz Shahid book and have seen carvan's as well. In my personal opinion Carvan is much better then Imtiaz Shahid. Imtiaz Shahid, sometimes, publishes reports taking it from internet without having its worth considered. Like in a book (65 or 66 don't exactly rememeber) he pubilshed a blog of a person. The report was almost 30 pages which took my 2 hours to read. All blog langauge was used. If he wanted to add that article he could easily edit that blog. What is your opinion. Suggestion needed from people who know about both of the book as they can better analyse. |

@Rose Pk
I also study both.Both have some positive and negative aspects.Like Imtiaz Shahid as u mention used internet and detailed reports with undigestable language and one topic may cover 30 to 40 pages which is very clumsy .. But positive thing of Shahid's Contemprary affairs is it gives the full facts and figures and we can learn skeal english too... In Carvan, The writer indicates the most important points during the specific period.But All those topics are from Different newspaper articles..So if one use to read daily newspaper like Dawn,The news,Times, Frontier Post and Observer then there's no need to buy the Carvan's Contemprary Affairs. In my opinion One can use Imtiaz Shahid coz of two reasons 1.For facts and figures and analytical views 2.To learn and use of skeal english Regards

Are these publications quarterly, monthly, bi-monthly, weekly or fortnightly? And isnt it advisable to get hold of them just few months prior to xamination?

Well Imtiaz Shahid dont add anything at his own, he just copies the material from different articles, newspaper opinions, magazines and off course internet, however, he seldom check veracity of facts mentioned in the articles.
I am not well versant to Caravan because I hav'nt seen it. However, for quality articles, you people may like see following: i). quarterly journal of Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (www.issi.org.pk) ii). quarterly Journal of National Development and Security published by FRIENDS Organization of Mirza Aslam Baig (www.friends.org.pk) iii). IPRI Journal published by islamabad policy research institute (www.ipripak.org/)

for current affairs
first make a list of topics then see each topic with different perspectives e.g Pak-India relations background,recent happenings,current issue,advantages/disadvantages,helpful factors,factors increasing the gap,analysis of situation and suggestions,how do you see in future etc. now shahid imtiaz book gives a detail cover from many perspectives as it has articles from various areas/people. caravan is good but i like shahid approach no matter what one chooses,one has to make one's own points and notes and by using various sources. it demands efforts and time i recommend shahid contemporary affairs.advantages of it are it is quarterly,variety,you can select and leave according to your choice. different perspectives and analysis are requirement of current affairs for me shahid is a must for CA,and in addition other sources as well best of luck
