The foreign policy of every country is driven by her national interests. To preserve the national interests the nations use diplomacy, economic power, regionalization, counterbalancing and ultimately war. The last option is rarely accepted by the international community, hence should always be refrained.

In this context, China and India are well on the way to promoting their trade relations while putting the political and strategic disagreements on the back burner.

Pakistan has always sought the help from various actors to counter balance India, China is one of those actors. The situation would bring threats as well as opportunities for Pakistan if both China and India solve their problems.

The options left to Pakistan would be as follows;

1. Re-frame her foreign policy and make it economic driven instead of security driven.
2. try to create good relations with all neighbours - India, Iran and Afghanistan
3. Strengthen her relations with Iran and Turkey - the emerging powers - in special and muslim world in general.
4. Strengthen her efforts in eliminating terrorism and extremism. this would improve the image internationally and resultantly reduce the suspicion the world has about us.
5. Ensure more effective participation in SAARC, SCO and other regional forums. note SCO is going to induct Pakistan and India as full members.
6. this would improve the strategic importance of Pakistan in practical terms as China, being good friend of Pakistan, would help india and Pakistan resolve their disputes and India would get access to CARs and Pakistan to Nepal and Bhotan apart from a huge market of India.
