Both expressions are in common use. However, 'Swear by' is used more often.

This house is built of bricks and stone.

(Stones means Pebbles/Kankar.Moreover,stone,is a material noun and it cannot be used as plural).

because bricks and stones were different entities..see a use of "of"
the table is made of wood...as wood is just modified to shape a table.

Just remove the 'S' from both the words because both of them are used as collective nouns.
