How to use 'To' and 'For' plz help.
 
How to use to and for in a sentence? is their any specific rule? I haven't found any appropriate explanation in oxford grammar book. plz help.

[B][COLOR="DarkGreen"] “To” and “for” are very common words and have many meanings in English. It would take me too long to explain all the uses of “to” and “for” to you.

I can think of one area, though, where a learner can be confused about which of these words to use as a preposition, for example in these sentences:

a) I gave a book to my mother.

b) I bought a book for my mother.

In (a), “to” is used to indicate someone who receives something. In (b) “for” indicates who is intended to have something[/COLOR][/B]
