Peace hath her victories, no less than war
Craving for peace is surely not a sign of weakness, in fact a lasting peace can have many victories in disguise. It is not only war where victors emerge but the peacemakers after getting off the table have also winners amongst them. The victory of peace is only visible to the prudent ones. Truce of Hudaibia proved fruitful for Muslims even though at the time of signing many Muslims were not very enthusiastic about it; but the Prophet (PBUH) had His sight on the future. Benjamin Disraeli, the former British Premier, on returning home from Conference of Berlin proudly announced 'Peace with honour.' Every war has to be brought to end with peace. The war which has been fought arduously in the battleground can easily be lost on the tables. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto resigned on this account after Tashkend agreement. Even today the United States, the hegemon, has been bogged down in Afghanistan, with its strained economy and ever diminishing reputation it is calling now for 'talks with moderate Talebans'. The benefits of peace are numerous. The countries in ASEAN had various unresolved maritime boundary disputes yet they chose to enter into a regional alliance to reap benefits of a globalized world. Pakistan and India did not read the writing on the wall and instead went to fight wars, and now with inflating security defence budgets both countries have to bear the brunt of increasing number of poor people deprived of basic amenities. They forgot, peace hath her victories, no less than war.
