Default Effective means of Social control‏

Effective means of Social control‏

Both goodness and evils exist in this world. God has given us free will to choose either good or bad. We are the architect of our own life or fate. God has sent thousands of prophets to guide human beings to lead a pious and virtuous life. There has been a great tussle and a battle the forces of good and satanic forces. Satan is considered the worst enemy of man. It needs great courage, determination and strong will power to resist the temptations and guiles of Satan.
A fear of God is indeed a perfect means of social control. An ingrained fear of Almighty Allah enables and empowers a person to combat evil forces and help emerge out successfully in the battle between truth and falsehood.
Our mores, social and cultural values can play a pivotal role in curbing and preventing social evils and other taboos. Disapproving and raised eyebrows over the practice of social taboos discourage the person involving in them. The society where mores, social and cultural values are given importance and implemented strictly can bring a sea change in the lives of individuals. Our society can reform even the incorrigible provided majority of our people strictly adhere to the social values. There was time when a neighbor hit a child for doing something bad. The child complained to his father against his father. The father went to the neighbor and thanked him for beating his son for his correction and improvement. Now things are quite inverse. Now, a father can't bear his son being beaten by anyone ever for his own correction and betterment. There was a time when people used to express their surprise to see dishonest person. Now, People do express their astonishment and surprise to see an honest person in our society, for they no longer expect somebody to be honest in this materialistic age.

Law of the land is also very effective means of social control. The fear of punishment instils fear in hearts of criminals. The punishment of chopping hands for theft in Saudi Arabi may apparently seems to be very harsh and cruel, but it is very effective. The harsh punishment checks and curbs the crime rate. We don't see many people without hands in Saudi Arabs without hands. The low theft rate in this country speaks volumes of the effectiveness of this punishment. The strict implementation of law can guarantee the social control.
To conclude, a role of an individual is considered to be very significant in social control. It is said that you can be sure of decrease of one dishonest person by making yourself honest. It is bounden duty of every individual to demonstrate good character and ethical values to make his world a worthy and an ideal place to live.
