The golden rule is that there is no golden rule…
Waiting for ur precious comments which will imrpove me.
A general consensus on certain principles which are necessary to create harmony and peace in society, are called rules. Rules are beneficial for human existence. Traditions, beliefs and laws are such rules which govern human life. They prohibit devious social behaviour and encourage to adopting such manners and actions as are ranked good for social progress. But one thing ought to be borne in mind that there is no golden at all. Rules are formulated for the goodness of men. And men are vulnerable to social change and society. Men change as the life changes. So changing rules according to men’s needs is a healthy practice in developed societies. Rules are not static. They need proper amendments for conformity with the changes. Changes are always disallowed in traditional and authoritarian societies. People struck to their rigid rules which were, once, made many generations ago. Their reluctance to changing rules is retrogressive. For instance, women education had not been considered necessary in some of the traditional families. If any family insists on to follow this rule of their ancestors by ignoring women education, it will prove harmful for many generations. Without education, women can not be expected to be good members of the society. Their contribution in national progress will be at minimum level. The golden rule of one age has become a barbaric rule for the other age. While in progressive societies, laws are dynamic. They are changed according to needs. Rules are not rigid rather they are flexible in nature. This practice brings harmony in society and takes it towards exploring new avenues of development. Rules are made for men, not men for rules. So they have to be altered and replaced by others, if they oppose to modern trends. It justifies that the golden rule is that there is no golden rule. If any rule is present then it is the ‘rule of change’, that should be accepted by all the societies for human existence! |

The Golden Rule is that there is no Golden Rule-2001
The Golden Rule is one of the Christ's maxims, an ethical code or a morality that states, "do unto others as you would like others to do to you." This maxim is promulgated by every religion or ethical code of the universe. But this state of utopia is not achievable in today's world. The statement that 'the golden rule is that there is no golden rule' by Bernard Shaw is the sheer criticism of 'golden rule' as he smartly adds to this statement that do not do unto others as you would like them to do to u, they may have different tastes.
This statement of Bernard Shaw is true to some extent, especially on national and international level. This maxim has an implication that focuses upon the significance of 'strategic foreign policies' of a country. Being humble and friendly with every country may let some of the countries exploit and manipulate this 'golden attitude' of the very country. For instance, if Pakistan becomes a sincere friend of India on the mere hopes of the same kind of attitude returned from India, it would be a folly on Pakistan's behalf, as India has proved to be an all-seasons 'enemy' of Pakistan, regardless of fact that Pakistan wants good relations with her or not. In our daily life, being blindly kind and sympathetic to anyone may add to the harm a person bears from others in his life. It is already understood by today's man that no matter how good one is to the others, others will not reciprocate the same level of attitude. A stubborn employee most probably would not meet deadlines, until scolded by his supervisor or boss. It would be myopic of a man if he expects the 'ideal' kind of attitude and treatment reciprocated from others, merely on the basis that he has treated them with the attitude, he wants from others towards himself. Therefore, he would abandon the 'golden rule' at some point in his life and would adhere to the Bernard Shaw's realistic approach, that the golden rule is that there is no golden rule. |
