Make hay while the sun shines
MAKE HAY WHILE THE SUN SHINES
The saying holds a great truth of life in itself. It gives man the idea to hit timely when the iron is hot. Man who seizes an opportunity right at the time when it appears to him makes the best use of it to his benefit. Contrary to what has just been said, those who slip any opportunity away from their hands are found languishing on what could have been life changing, had it been tamed in time. Practical men always utilize an opportunity when it comes their way. Hence, wisdom demands that an opportunity should not be wasted whenever it knocks at our door.
Farmer needs to make his dry his hay when the sun shines. Those who lit the summer slip away from their hands can not make their hay next summer. If the opportunity of making hay in time is not seized under the shining sun, the hay might get spoilt. Opportunity should be taken from its forelock, and make the best use of it. So, for a former who wants to make his hay, the summer at his disposal is the best time. Likewise, a student should also not waste any opportunity. Students who are used to postponing the works of now till tomorrow waste an opportunity and time. Those who do not catch hold of opportunities which come to them, rue at the end of the day. They repent later on, but there is no use in shedding tears over spilt milk.
Sunshine here means the days of youth. If we spend the days of our youth carelessly, would mean a permanent loss to man. The old age is the age to sit indolently and lament over the physical weakness and repent the memory loss. Hence, man must act at the right time to achieve something in life. The burden of the song is that when an opportunity comes in, give your best to utilize it. At the end of the day, those who are accorded with the victory are those who always have seized an opportunity. What it demands is will power, passion and courage to face challenges to tame the given opportunity for ones betterment in life.
