General queries regarding essay writing

Dear members,

I wanted to ask a general question regarding the essay exam. Does one get downgraded for being overly opinionated in his or her essay for example if one criticizes the current governance policies or to be more specific the death penalty in the country is there a risk associated with voicing such opinions if they are construed as anti patriotic. I realize that the examiner is a human being and cannot be completely neutral, regardless I would be grateful if someone could guide me on this. Also, can the essay be written in a style that resembles the editorials one reads in newspapers?

I would suggest not to deploy any such idea which is contentious and controversial, play safe. For instance, you may assert it is an undeniable fact that Pakistan is an Islamic Republic and death penalty is Islamic punishment; however, the way it is imposed in Pakistan does not alien with objectives expressed in Islamic perspective. Then, I would advise to criticise the procedure rather than the substantive law itself.

with regards to essay and editorial style, It will be futile exercise to do that. Remember, editorial writing is a mixture of reporting and opinion, nevertheless, in an essay the examiner has already specifically mentioned that he is interested to see descriptive,narrative,argumentative and expository style of writing.
