Great Nations: win : without fighting

Dear all I have gone through various threads but I cannot exactly know the meanig of the subjected essay therefore I have started this thread .
I have divided the sentence in three parts, first part is great nations :

All the respected members are requested to tell something about the word " Great Nations".

1) What do you mean by Great nations?
2) Which nation according to you is a great nation?

I personally think that examiner didn't ask particularly on great nation but one may interpret that nations developed with more professionals ,scholars and intellectuals have attributes to be called great nations. one may quote examples of developed countries like china superpower of future .
