Forms of Energy

Energy:
The capacity of a body to do work is called energy. In the International System of Units (SI), energy is measured in joules. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only be transformed. A system can transfer energy to another system by simply transferring matter to it.

There are two main forms of energy:

1. Kinetic Energy:
The kinetic energy of an object is the energy which it possesses due to its motion. It is defined as the work needed to accelerate a body of a given mass from rest to its stated velocity. The body maintains this gained kinetic energy unless its speed changes. When we are walking or running, our body is exhibiting kinetic energy.

2. Potential Energy:
Potential energy is the energy of a body or a system due to the position of the body or the arrangement of the particles of the system. Potential energy is the stored energy. It is the energy that exists within an object. In other words it is the stored energy of a position possessed by an object.

Respected sir, I think these are not the forms of energy but these are types of the energy. Forms are that in which energy exists like: Heat, sound, light, gravitational, thermal, hydel etc. Thats what I have read in chemistry and Physics. Regards

Renewable and non-renewable are the sources of energy. These are neither types nor forms of energy. For example Sun is the source of heat and light energy. I think you have studied this in Dogars Publishers book. It is wrong.

Brother these are forms of energy. On the other hand Heat, sound, light etc are the types of energy. These are blend of Kinetic and Potential energy. Check the following image. Questions relating forms and types of energy were included in EDS 2011 paper. If you see total marks of each part then you will come to know what is meant by forms of energy and types of energy.

Forms are those which can convert into one another like kinetic into potential and potential into kinetic for example if one ball is at rest it have stored potential energy when a force applied on ball and it moves then it will move with energy that is kinetic energy so potential has been converted into kinetic energy whereas types of energy are solar,wind,water,geothermal etc sources are not types sources are basicaly of two types renewable those can b renewed naturally as air,water etc and non-renewable resources are those which once exhausted then cannot b renewed e.g coal,gas,petroleum,oil etc...as other members said

I have gone through books and all these references quoted above, according to their information there are two broad classes of energy i.e. Kinetic and Potenital Energy which exist in the form of sound, heat, light, wind, coal etc.

If numbers for a Q are less then we can quote names of forms as per above references:

several forms of energy include:

Heat called as Thermal energy
Chemical energy
Electric energy
Radiant energy, the energy of electromagnetic radiation
Nuclear energy
Magnetic energy
Elastic energy
Sound energy
Wind Energy
Hydroelectric energy
Mechanical energy
Luminous energy etc.

I just want to clarify the ambiguity with you learned people.

what you called electricity? is converted form of hydel power? mechanical form of energy converts into electrical because water have stored potential energy converted into kinetic not type of energy changed into other just as light travel in the form of light beams which are made up of photons when it converts into other by solar cell that is called electrical energy.forms are convertable typs are not.
