dear uniter i want to say something before giving answer to your query.

its a common misconception now a days that islamiat paper is not from books its a sort of current affair paper, yes it is but let me tell you one thing that you have to relate the circumstances with islamic knowledge. its very easy.

uniter first of all try to understand the question by dividing it in to 2 parts and then ans. one by one. as in above mention question, there are 2 parts

1st you have to describe the faith of resurrection by arguments

traditional means with the help of verses from quran and sunnah.

rational mean what society thinks about this faith why it is important.

2nd part you have to describe its effects both indiviual and collective,so that you can explain how they are benificial in establishing an organised society.

i hope it will clear your concept. if you have other query you are most welcome to ask.

Re-establishing The Institution of Zakat.

Due to a variety of eroding factors, the institution of zakat, which once provided an c economic safety net to society, has lost its meaning. Today, it has an ad hoc and irregular function reduced to almost a ritual practiced individually by a small minority of Muslims. Many who pay zakat, unfortunately, do not even know how to accurately calculate it, let alone its potential economic impact on society.

To re-establish the institution of zakat, it is essential that we first understand the importance of zakat in terms of its economic impact upon society. Also, in order to properly apply its rules and regulations to many forms of wealth, we must recognise that there are new categories of wealth (such as intellectual property and other intangible assets) which did not exist in early Muslim society, and for which we need to use appropriate evaluation methods (book value, replacement values, market value, present value of future earnings, etc.) in computing zakat.

Can the institution of zakat achieve its objectives of establishing economic justice and general well being of all members of society through equitable distribution of wealth in today’s economic environment? Since there is no contemporary empirical data, this question can be answered only through simulation or extrapolation of the cumulative economic impact of a redistribution of wealth. To test if it is as valid as it was fourteen centuries ago, let’s go through a simple accounting exercise. It is a known fact that the collective wealth of 1% population of the Middle East lying in the Western Banks is conservatively estimated to be in the region of over 800 Billion dollars, and earns $80 Billion annually in net profits (10% rate of return of equity) a 2.5% Zakat on this wealth would produce an annual Zakat of approximately 20 Billion dollars. Mind well this is only 1% population of the Middle East. If some one estimates the total wealth of the 1.25 Billion Muslims and measures the Zakat we can well imagine what an economic impact it can have on the lives of the Muslims alone.

If we were to distribute this money among various categories of recipients of zakat as prescribed in the Quran over, say, every year for the next ten years, the cumulative result of this annual redistribution of wealth will substantially reduce unemployment, expand investment base, eliminate poverty and extreme disparity of wealth between rich and poor by the end of the tenth year. This projection is however based on the premise that this goal is achievable in a reasonable length of time provided the system of collection and distribution of zakat is credible, cost-effective, loophole-free and supported by strong accountability mechanisms to assure its integrity.

An Advise:
Do not load your paper with Quranic references and Ahadith.Wherever necessary and relevant, give them, but do not go on loading your paper with them,if you know what I mean.Use them to support your arguments, analysis and comments, rather than doing the other way round.Nowadays, and rightly so,the examiners look for your own analysis and description of the question, rather than just cramming references and 'firing' them at him.Islamiyat paper is the reason I love CSS,it just filters the best from the rest.

well roshan its a good outline, but i have a question can you plz write some arguments here which are asked in question no;3.

Roshan wadhwani Sunday, October 16, 2011 11:34 AM

Freedom is an end, terror is a means. So to call a combatant a terrorist is to say something about his tactics, his means for achieving his ends, while to call a combatant a freedom fighter is to say nothing about his tactics or means for achieving his ends. It follows that one and the same combatant can be both a terrorist and a freedom fighter. For one and the same person can employ terror as his means while having freedom as his end.

Suppose a Palestinian Arab jihadi straps on an explosive belt and detonates himself in a Tel Aviv pizza parlor. He is objectively a terrorist: he kills and maims noncombatants in furtherance of a political agenda which includes freedom from Israeli occupation. The fact that he is a freedom fighter does not make him any less a terrorist. Freedom is his end, but terror is his means. It is nonsense to say that he is a terrorist to Israelis and their supporters and a freedom fighter to Palestinians and their supporters. He is objectively both. It is not a matter of 'perception' or point of view or which side one is on.

Another Palestinian renounces terrorism and fights for freedom from occupation by the path of negotiation. He is objectively a freedom fighter and objectively no terrorist. A third case might be an Israeli terrorist who blows up a Palestinian hospital or mosque in revenge for Palestinian terrorist attacks. He is objectively a terrorist but objectively not a freedom fighter.

So there are two reasons to avoid 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.' The first is that it rests on a confusion of means and ends. Describing a combatant as a terrorist, means not his end; describing a combatant as a freedom fighter, means his end not his means. A second reason to avoid the saying is because the saying suggests falsely that there is no fact of the matter as to whether or not a person is a terrorist. There is: a combatant is a terrorist if and only if he employs terror as a tactic in the furtherance of his political goals. It doesn't matter what his goal or end is. It might be the noble one of freedom from oppression. Or it might be base one of domination and exploitation. What makes him a terrorist is the means he employs.

My goodness gracious me!!! i have been struggling with islamiyat for the past month.finding resources and references and trying to cope with the kind of contemporary questions that islamyat papers deal with recently! this thread was a breath of fresh AIR! GOD SENT! RELIEF!
GOD BLESS YOU Sir Roshan and Ms Sabahat!!! i have been at my wits end preparing for islamiyat ... i really cant thank you enough.

Ahmad butt Tuesday, November 29, 2011 08:00 PM

HI to Mr Roshan and Miss Sabahat, i have been reading your collaborative efforts for making the notes and would like to appreciate both of you for sincere efforts and loyal support for each others... the issue of one man's terror and other man's freedom fighter tickled to give my own opinion.
i have read the writing of Mr. Roshan on the aforesaid question i suggest member to understand the question at first and the underlying theme.

the theme is we have to explain what is jihad and wts the terrorism, meaning thereby we ought to explain what is wrong and what is right.. in urdu i would say, Humain Shar aur Kher mei faraq batana hoga.

now fighting or asserting effort for right cause (to protect your right and stand against aggressor) is Jihad in the light of Islam, and the proper way of use of force for this purpose is also allowed by Islam So using right force for right cause can never be terrorism though the world may call fighter as terrorists

Similarly fighting for strategic interests in such a way that other's interest are hurt it shall always fall under category of Shar, Hence they are real terrorist in the light of Islam they world may call them freedom fighters

therefore, the litmus test or the only parameter for judging a fighter as freedom fighter or terrorist shall be the underlying cause...

here in question we shall be quoting the examples of aggrieved nations of the world who have legitimately stood against aggressors.

QURAN AS A FOUNTAIN-HEAD OF ALL KNOWLEDGE
INTRODUCTION:
[31:28] And if all the trees that are in the earth were pens, and the ocean were ink, with seven oceans swelling it thereafter, the words of Allah would not be exhausted. Surely, Allah is Mighty, Wise.
The Holy Quran is a fountain-head of all knowledge. It is the last and perfect message of ALLAH (s.w.t) to the Whole Mankind revealed some fourteen centuries ago to an unlettered man of Arabia by the name of Muhammad (sa). The most innocent of the innocents and the purist of the purified and the most perfect of all that ever walked on this planet, was chosen to receive the brilliant light of the Quran which, having dispelled all the traces of darkness, ushered in the era of enlightenment on mankind. In the words of Holy Quran:
[39:70] And the earth will shine with the light of her Lord,
The very first verse of this Holy Text revealed to the Holy Prophet in the dark recesses of Cave Hira speaks volumes on the great revolution of knowledge and learning that was to be triggered by this book. And they were:

[96:2] Convey thou in the name of thy Lord Who created, [96:3] Created man from a clot of blood. [96:4] Convey! And thy Lord is Most Generous, [96:5] Who taught man by the pen, [96:6] Taught man what he knew not.

EXPLANATION:
The Holy Quran is a comprehensive book of all sciences, in which all that will happen until the Qiyamah, all the information about the beginnings and the end of the world and the solution for all problems of every aspect of life is present. As Allah Ta'ala says in (Surah Anaam-38).
"We have left out nothing in pre-determining the courses of their lives: then ultimately they are all gathered to their Lord.”

Allah Ta'ala has mentioned the comprehensiveness and boundlessness of the sciences in the Holy Quran in Surah Younus-37.
“And this Qur'an is not a thing that could be composed without Allah's Revelation: nay, it is the confirmation of what was revealed before it, and full explanation of `the Book'.There is no doubt about this that it is from the Lord of the universe.”
The Holy Quran describes every kind of thing. There are a total of 77450 words in the Holy Quran and from each word, a fountain of knowledge is gushing forth.

It has been said on the authority of Hadhrat Imam Suyuti (May Allah shower His mercy on him) that Allama Qazi Abu Bakr Ibn Arabi (May Allah shower His mercy on him) said: Every letter of the Holy Quran has 4 dimensions: The outward, the inward, a beginning and an end. Every letter of the Holy Quran has 4 kinds of knowledge in it with these 4 dimensions. In light of this, the Holy Quran has 309800 sciences. For this reason, Hadhrat Abdullah Bin Abbas (May Allah be well pleased with him) said: Even if the halter (rope) of my camel is lost, I will find it in the Book of Allah. Allah Ta'ala has granted absolute knowledge about all the sciences of the Holy Quran, which encompasses all outward and inward knowledge and all laws and rules to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and has made Him a teacher (Muallim) of this great book and has sent to the whole universe. As Allah Ta'ala says in Surah Rahman 1-4.
“The most Merciful (ALLAH (s.w.t)) has taught this Qur'an. He it is Who created man and taught him speech”

If someone says that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) does not know this, then that person is not raising an objection on the knowledge of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam), but on the Holy Quran itself that the Holy Quran is imperfect and even on Allah Ta'ala Himself that He sent someone who does not have complete knowledge of the Holy Quran and the reality is that the Holy Quran is flawless and the selection of the Allah Ta'ala is also flawless.

With the knowledge gained from the court of Allah Ta'ala, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has informed us of all that will happen until the Day of Judgment, made us aware of Jannah, Hell, Barzakh (the netherworld between this world and the Aakhirah), Aakhirah, judgment and everything else. There is a Hadith from Sahih Bukhari:

Translation : The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) came among us to give a sermon and He described the reality of beginning of the universe (creation) to when the people of Jannah will go into Jannah and the people of Hell will go into Hell. (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 3192)

here is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Zaid Amr Bin Akhtab (May Allah be well pleased with him):
The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) led the Salaat Ul Fajr, then graced the pulpit and spoke to us until the time for Salaat Ul Zuhr came, then He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) led the Salaat Ul Zuhr, then graced the pulpit and spoke to us until the time for Salaat Ul Asr came, then He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) performed Salaat Ul Asr, graced the pulpit and spoke to us until the sun set. He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) gave us detailed information about what has happened and what will happen. (Sahih Muslim, Hadith No. 7449)

The Holy Quran promotes the search for Knowledge through rationality and reason The Holy Quran not only established its excellence in terms of the beauty of its style, idiom and composition, but also by motivating its followers to reflect and ponder over the things around them and to draw conclusions on the basis of rational thinking. The Holy Quran manifestly acknowledges the role of rationality for the attainment of truth; whether that be of a religious or secular nature. This great emphasis on rational thinking played a vital role in promoting the quest for knowledge in the realm of religion and science. It was the urge for learning that subsequently sparked a dynamic movement that helped change the world as we know it today.

Alas! The great intellectual, economic and social prosperity that Muslims gained in the early period of Islam by following the golden principles of the Holy Quran waned out soon due to their rejection of the same book of wisdom. In fact this too was prophesied in the following verse of the Holy Quran:
[25:31] And the Messenger will say, ‘O my Lord, my people indeed treated this Qur’an as a discarded thing.’
And this resulted in the downfall of the whole Muslim empire. But the Muslims’ legacy of finding the truth through reasoning and experimentation was passed on to the Western world which ultimately culminated in a scientific and industrial revolution of the 17th and 18th centuries. In this era of great Enlightenment that dawned upon West, Muslims were engulfed by the pitch darkness of ignorance. The Knowledge of the Holy Quran is revealed at certain times.
When the West was making great discoveries and inventions that were laid hidden in the treasure house of the Holy Quran, the Muslims had unfortunately distanced themselves from its wisdom. They encased it in elaborate and elegant cloths and placed it on high shelves – far away from anyone`s reach – limiting themselves to reverence. Even those who knew how to read its words, albeit without understanding, would recite it merely on the dead rather than on the living. Some went so far as to declare parts of it abrogated for the sheer reason of being unable to understand them. However, just like any other knowledge, the gates to understanding this divine message were to be opened at a certain time. As it is mentioned in the Holy Quran:

[15:22] And there is not a thing but with Us are the treasures thereof and We send it not down except in a known measure.
At this time of utter disparity covering the Muslim world and faithlessness in the so-called enlightened western world.
The verities and fine points which foster understanding are always disclosed according to need. New corruptions call for ever fresh meanings, which are full of wisdom. It is obvious that the Holy Qur’an is a miracle in itself, and the greatness of its miracle is that it is comprehensive of unlimited verities, but they are manifested at their due time. As the difficulties of the time demand, those hidden insights are disclosed.
The Holy Qur’an itself is vivid miracle which can manifest itself to every people and by presenting which we can silent every non-believer or pagan, is the unlimited treasury of insights, verities and wisdoms, which are expounded in every age according to its need and stand as armed soldiers to refute the thinking of every age. If the Holy Qur’an had been limited in its verities and insights, it would not have amounted to a perfect miracle.

A necessary sign for the recognition of the holy and true Word of ALLAH (s.w.t) is that it should be unique in all its qualities, for we observe that whatever proceeds from ALLAH (s.w.t) Almighty is unique and matchless even if it is only a grain of barley, and human powers cannot match it. Being matchless means being unlimited, that is to say, a thing can be matchless only when its wonders and qualities are unlimited and have no end. As we have just stated, this characteristic is found in everything created by ALLAH (s.w.t) Almighty. For instance, if the wonders of a leaf of a tree are investigated for a thousand years, that period would come to an end, but the wonders of the leaf will not come to an end. That which has come into being through unlimited power, must comprise unlimited wonders and qualities. The verse, “Say, ‘If every ocean becomes ink for the words of my Lord, surely, the ocean would be exhausted before the words of my Lord were exhausted, even though We brought the like thereof as further help;’” (18:110) supports this, for the whole of creation in Words of ALLAH (s.w.t). Thus this verse means that the qualities of creation are without limit and endless. Now when every created thing possesses unlimited and endless qualities and comprises numberless wonders then how could the Holy Qur’an, which is the Holy Word of ALLAH Almighty, be confined to the few meanings which may be set out in a commentary of forty or fifty or a thousand volumes, or could have been expounded by our lord and master the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him] in a limited period? To say so would almost amount to disbelief, if it is deliberately persisted in. It is true that whatever the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him] has set forth as the meaning of the Holy Qur’an is true and correct, but it is not true that the Holy Qur’an contains no more than the insights that have been set forth by the Holy Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be on him]. Such sayings of our opponents indicate that they do not believe in the unlimited greatness and qualities of the Holy Qur’an.

Hazrat ALI (r.z) ,gate of all the knowledge, witnesses about the QURAN as a fountain-head of all knowledge with following words:
1:it’s a sharp instrument whoever basis his arguments on it.
2:it’s a source of knowledge for whoever has sense and the best narrative for its transmitters;
3: It is a light whose radiance shall not be extinguished;
4:A lamp whose flame shall not die;
Subhaanallah! This brilliant oration reviews many important points which call for careful reflection. For instance, by saying that Al-Quran is 'a lamp whose flame shall not die,' Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (as) means, as he does in many other statements in this oration, that Al-Quran is a book whose signification shall not be exhausted. It will remain fresh and new until the Day of Resurrection. A verse may have been sent down regarding a specific occasion or community, yet its relevance is not limited to that occasion, person, or community; rather, its signification and applicability are general.

Regarding the verse "For every people there is a guide (Al-Quran, 13:7)", al-Ayyashi reports the following discussion with Abu Ja'far [Imam al-Baqir (as)]:

"Imam al-Baqir (as) said, 'Ali is the guide, and the guide is always one of us.'

I said, 'Then you - for whom may my life be a sacrifice - are now the guide.'

'You are right,' said Imam al-Baqir (as). 'Al-Quran lives and will not die; the verses live and will not die. If a verse were to die with the death of the persons concerning whom it came down, then Al-Quran would have definitely died. Rather, such a verse would continue to apply to those who are alive as it did to those who died.'"

Another tradition reports that Imam al-Sadiq (as) said, "Certainly, Al-Quran lives, and has not died; and it is existent just as the day and the night and the sun and the moon are existent. And it will exist for the last among us as it has existed for the first."

CONCLUSION:
The HOLY QURAN is undoubtedly a never-ending treasure of knowledge . Not only the wonders of the Holy Quran and that of the Natural World are unlimited, but they are also in absolute harmony with each other. It is impossible to trace any conflict between the work of ALLAH (s.w.t), i.e., science and the Word of ALLAH (s.w.t), i.e., the Holy Quran.
The Holy Qur’an is a Book so full of wisdom that it has brought out the accord between the principles of spiritual medicine, that is to say, the principles of religion which are truly spiritual medicine, and physical medicine, and this accord is so fine that it opens the doors of hundreds of insights and eternal truths. Only that person can interpret the Holy Qur’an truly and perfectly, who ponders the principles laid down by the HolyQur’an in the light of the system of physical medicine. On one occasion I was shown in a vision some books of expert physicians which contained a discussion of the principles of physical medicine, among which was included the book of the expert Physician Qarshi, and it was indicated to me that these Books contained a commentary on the Holy Qur’an. This shows that there is a deep relationship between the science of bodies and the science of religion and that they confirm each other. When I looked at the Holy Qur’an, keeping in mind the books that dealt with physical medicine, I discovered that the Holy Qur’an sets out in an excellent manner the principles of physical medicine
Following this principal and rational we can rightly conclude that whatever man has discovered or learnt so far in any field of knowledge help explain the verses of the Holy Quran. In other words all the books that have been written down to explain the Physical World are, in reality, the commentaries of the Holy Quran. In some cases the whole branch of scientific knowledge seems to be devoted to unravel the secrets of a single verse of Holy Quran. For example all the scientific findings in the field of Embryology serve as the testimony of the truth of this verse of Quran:

[23:13] Verily, We created man from an extract of clay; [23:14] Then We placed him as a drop of sperm in a safe depository; [23:15] Then We fashioned the sperm into a clot; then We fashioned the clot into a shapeless lump; then We fashioned bones out of this shapeless lump; then We clothed the bones with flesh; then We developed it into another creation. So blessed be Allah, the Best of creators. This kind of Miracle of the Holy Quran has also been admired by the modern scientists. Dr. Moore who was a Professor of Anatomy and Chairman of the Department, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto, commenting on the above mentioned verse says:
“This verse from the Koran states that ALLAH (s.w.t) made you from a drop and then changed the drop into a leech-like structure which soon changed into a chewed like substance that then took the shape of bone and was clothed with flesh” and said , “I was amazed at the scientific accuracy of these statements which were made in the 7th century A.D”
There is no doubt whatsoever that the Holy Quran discusses all such issues that enhance, one way or the other, man’s understanding of this world or that of other. However, the real objective of this Holy Book is to guide man to the ultimate and absolute truth that is unchangeable over the periods of time. And that truth is, “there is none worthy of worship except Allah”.
This is the ultimate conclusion of all pursuits of gaining knowledge and understanding in this world, if done with the sincerity of the heart and mind. This is the point where a true believer of the Quran enters into the realm of absolute certainty.
"May ALLAh advance us with correct knowledge. Aameen."

Thnx alot dear for appreciation..

These notes contain almost all major topics of the course which must be covered well..and for current issues and topics keep reading friday features in Dawn newspaper.

As far as getting outstanding marks is concerned it does not depend upon cramming the whole notes but on the quality of your answer in the paper and that further depends on level of your understanding and in depth analysis.

You should go through these notes well, these will surely help you alot to cover the syllabus and you'll be able to get the sketch of the course, but along with these notes do refer some quality book to develop your analysis and understanding.

Hope its clear to you and will help u...Regards:))

With the knowledge gained from the court of Allah Ta'ala, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) has informed us of all that will happen until the Day of Judgment, made us aware of Jannah, Hell, Barzakh (the netherworld between this world and the Aakhirah), Aakhirah, judgment and everything else. here is a Hadith in Sahih Muslim on the authority of Hadhrat Abu Zaid Amr Bin Akhtab (May Allah be well pleased with him):

Dear good attempt, but you have made it too lengthy and stuffed it with suras and ahadiths and other references, this is not going to help you. Try to be more specific and quote three or four but most relevant suras and ahadiths in your answer and only where there they suit the most....Goodluck...Regards

dear brother, it is equally good if we write the mafhoom n more safe as if we make any mistake in placing words on the right place will be forgiven then., next if you want to learn the exact ayats and surats so i think writing practice is the only way. n try to link the ayat number n tarjuma in a way that when you recall the ayat number you automatically recall the tarjuma n vice versa.

and how to deal with the learning of exact Surah and verse number as given in your notes, if some one writes that in deed it will be a great impact on the checker.. wont it be,please.
Dear its well and good if you could quote exactly the same words it will surely have a good impression on checker, but its not necessary to give verse number, if you remember any do give otherwise no problem..and there is nothing wrong in quoting mafhoom of that verse if you dont remember the exact words...Regards
Quote them whereever you think its appropriate, to support your arguments, analysis etc. It has good impression. But avoid writing them unnecessarily.
Regards!

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Topic: THE NOBLE QUR’AN IS THE GUIDANCE FOR ALL MANKIND

“O Mankind! Worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, happily ye may guard (yourselves from evil)” (Sura Baqarah, Verse 21)

WHY WAS THE QUR’AN REVEALED?

Why was the Qur’an revealed? Sura Luqman, verse 3 answers this question by saying that the Qur’an is: “A guidance and a mercy unto the righteous ones.”

This verse clearly tells us that the Qur’an is meant to be a guidance for the entire human race, but it is a mercy only to the “righteous ones.” Who are the “righteous ones?” This is answered in Sura Baqarah, verses 3 and 4:

“Those who guard against evil, believe in the unseen, are steadfast in their prayers, spend out of what we have provided for them and who believe in that which was revealed unto thee and that which was revealed before thee, and are certain of the hereafter.”

THE QUR’AN CONTAINS EVERYTHING A MAN NEEDS TO KNOW

The religion of Islam is superior to any other in that it guarantees happiness in a man’s life hereafter, if he/she abides by the universal law set in the Holy Qur’an. For Muslims, Islam is a belief system with moral and practical laws that are inculcated in the Qur’an for all human beings.

Allah says in the Qur’an in Sura Bani-Israel, verse 9:

“Indeed this Qur’an guides to the path which is clearer and straighter than any other.”

Most surely this verse strengthens the fact that mankind is in a loss if he/she does not heed the advise given to us in the Holy Qur’an.

Allah says in Sura An-Nahl, verse 89:

“............ We have revealed to you the book which clarifies every matter.......”

The Qur’an by itself cannot teach and guide its readers because there is every possibility of misunderstanding and misinterpretations, and so, it is necessary that the teachings of Qur’an be directly taken from the Prophet and his Ahlul Bait (progeny). The Holy Prophet himself declared:

“I leave among you two weighty things, the Book of Allah (the Qur’an) and my Itrat (progeny); if you hold fast to them you will never go astray; and these two shall never separate from each other till they meet at the heavenly fountain of Kauser.” (Hadith al-Thaqalayn)

God, in the Holy Qur’an commands humanity that:

“This is the Book. In it is guidance surely without any doubt, to those who fear God, who believe in the Unseen, are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what we have provided for them.” (Sura Baqarah, verse 2 and 3)

Through this verse Allah commands mankind that if/she wants guidance they must turn towards him through different sections.

Also the Qur’an states in Sura Luqman, verse 2-4:

“These are the verses of the wise Book. A guide and a mercy to those who do good, those who establish regular prayers, and give regular charity, and have in their hearts the assurance of the hereafter.”

The above ayat shows some examples of the actions which man must perform in order to know the All Mighty Creator.

The Qur’an is very steadfast about being a guidance to man as seen in the following ayats.

Allah says in Sura Bani-Israel, verse 105:

“We sent down the Qur’an in truth, and in truth has it descended: And we sent thee but to give glad tidings and to warn (mankind).”

The Holy Qur’an is a law of guidance, it is a message of significant importance which has to be obeyed and followed by the entire mankind.

Allah says in Sura Abasa, verse 11:

“Nay! but the Qur’an is a reminder.”

A reminder for whom? But of course mankind.

Imam Ali (A.S.), in one of his sermons in Nahjul Balagha, said: “Read the Holy Qur’an carefully because, it is the most sublime of all holy Books; try to understand and study it diligently, because it is the best food for thought; enlighten your mind with its teachings, because it’s divine is the best cure for diseased mentally; and read it with sincerely good intentions. because it contains very useful and instructive episodes from the history of man.”

He continues in saying that the Qur’an is the best guide in the realm where glory of God dwells: “It contains the best of everything that can give satisfaction for a supermind. It is the greatest source of knowledge for mankind. It purifies one’s idea and broadens the vision.”

These words from the talking Qur’an reveals the secret that his Book is surely the gem for humans. To emphasize this point the Qur’an informs people of the Ahlul Bait (talking Qur’an). The Qur’an says in the following verse that it establishes the highest position equal to that of the Ahlul Bait as proclaimed by the Holy Prophet in the Hadith al-Thaqalayn.

“If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of the Qur’an, they could not produce the like there of, even if they backed up each other with help and support.” (Sura Bani-Israel, verse 88)

This verse tells us how important the Qur’an is, and even if the whole mankind and Jinns were to produce the like of the Qur’an, they could not have done it.

In Sura Bani-Israel, verse 9, it says:

“Verily this Qur’an does guide to that which is most light(for stable), and gives the glad tidings to the believers who work towards righteousness, that they shall have a magnificent reward.”

WHO WILL ALLAH GUIDE?

We have so many verses in the Qur’an that tells us that the Qur’an is a guidance to mankind and Allah guides those who obey the commands of Allah. In the Qur’an in Sura Yunus, verse 9, it says:
“Those who believe, and work in righteousness, the Lord will guide them because of the faith.”

This verse tells us who Allah will guide, and it also gives us a message that we shall believe in the religion and obey the commands of Allah.

In another place in Sura Muhammed, verse 17, it says:

“And to those who receive guidance; he increases the Light of Guidance, and bestows on them their piety and restrains from evil.”

THE UNIVERSAL MESSAGE TO EVERY HUMAN BEING

The Qur’an is not only talking to the Muslims or to a particular sect of Muslim. The Qur’an is also talking to Non-Islamic societies as well as the Muslim nation as a whole. There are many references to non-believers and idol-worshippers, to the people of the Book (Jews or the Tribe of Isreal, and the Christians).

The Qur’an calls each group to Islam by providing proofs and never stipulates that they be of Arab stock. Referring to the idol-worshippers, Allah says in Sura Al-Bara’at, verse 11:

“If they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then they are your brothers in religion.”

The universal message is clear in its complexity for it develops the idea that Islam and Qur’an is the message for all human beings. Likewise, Allah talks about the people of the Book, { Jews, Christians, and Arabs (Zoroastrians) }.

“Say O people of the Book come to an agreement between us and you: That you shall worship none but God and that we shall ascribe no partners to him and that none of us shall take others for Lords beside God.” (Sura Al-e-Imran, verse 64)

In these verses we see Allah addressing different people telling them of the right path, surely this is the most gracious Book to guide us all.

From the sixth year after Hijrah, when the din of Islam was being propagated beyond the Arabian peninsula, there are references which demonstrate that the Qur’an is addressing itself to mankind in general; for example in Sura Al An’am, verse 19, it says:

“This Qur’an has been revealed to me that I may warn you and whomever it may reach.”

This warning is to none other than humans of the time. Therefore in Sura Al-Qalam, verse 52, it says:

“It is nothing but a reminder to the world.”

Surely the world is a inhabited by all creeds and race and so the book remains the source of guidance to all the people of the world. The word ‘mankind’ has been mentioned at least six times in the Qur’an. In light of this Islam has embraced by a number of leading members of other religions, including idol-worshippers of Mecca, Jews, Christians, and people from other communities, such as Salman of Persia, Suhayb from Rome, and Bilal from Ethiopia.

The Qur’an uses the word ‘people’ to address the universal message of Islam. There are 513 times that the Qur’an uses the word people in various verses. The terminology that the Qur’an uses clearly indicates that the Qur’an is not for Muslims but to the whole mankind.

REFER TO THE HOLY BOOK OR THE PROPHET FOR EVERY PROBLEM

Imam Jaffer as-Sadiq (A.S.) has said, “There is not a single difference of opinion between two persons whose solution is not given in the Book of Allah, the mighty, the glorious. But their intelligence does not fathom its depth.”

In this Hadith, it mentions about two persons, these two persons can be anyone from any walk of life, so this Hadith is telling us that there is every answer to every problem which any man may have, therefore this book of guidance is for the complete human race whose problems are answered in a clear form within the ayats of the Qur’an.

In conclusion, Imam Jaffer as-Sadiq (A.S.) has said, "I am the descendant of the Prophet of Allah. I most thoroughly know the Book of Allah. In it is mentioned the beginning of the creation and also whatever is going to happen till the day of judgment. It contains all information about the heaven and the earth, paradise and hell, and the news of all that has happened and that is going to happen. I know all that as if I am looking at the palm of my hand." Allah says in Sura An-Nahl, verse 89:

“And we have revealed to you explaining everything clearly.”

Mashallah! One does not have to go further than these glorious words which in all aspect prove that the Qur’an contains the universal message of Islam, and that Islam and the Qur’an are the only source of guidance to humanity.

A lot of thanks to Roshan and Syeda for such a great effort.. Before finding these notes, I was looking for good islamiat notes in English.. Although Khursheed Ahmed's Islami nazriya-e-Hayat is a very good book for those who are going to attempt the paper in Urdu but its english version is not quite its translation.. I found Roshan's notes very much aligned to the Urdu version of that book.

So I've complied all of his notes, syeda's and others' comments, amendments and have prepared a single word and pdf files for all of those who are looking for English notes. These files are print friendly.
