Dear all aspirants! I'm confused about the topic "PROXY WARS- role of external elements"
What are the exact meanings of this topic. Can someone explain this topic? If any one have some material about this topic, please share.

A war where two powers use third parties as a supplement to, or a substitute for fighting each other directly.


USSR and USA fought wars in Vietnam and Afghanistan,former supported Vietnam and latter supported Afghan mujahedin. Proxy wars are generally attributed to wars in cold war era.

Dear engr Khan, the answer given by Qublai is fine. Proxy wars are fought through a third state without being directly involved in the war. One recent example of the proxy war is the role of Turkey in the Syrian Crisis. Turkey shot down the fighter planes of Russia in Syria. Many analyst say that Syrian war is a flight between US and Russia but US is fighting through Turkey (proxy) not directly.

Similarly in history, Pakistan remained US proxy in Afghan war against Russia in post 1979 period.

KSA using Pakistan as a proxy in Yemen war. Am i right? Do you have some useful material about Yemen war?

KSA was never in peace with Yemen.their conflict is historical.it would be wrong to say that Pakistani forces are fighting proxy war in Yemen because Pakistan ratified strategic alliance and it is state of active confrontation.



Let's see some history of Yemen

1)there were two parts of Yemen,South yemen;having majority of Shia population remained under sway of communist power,north Yemen;majority of sunni populatlion,due its proximity to Saudi Arabia, here KSA got hold.


2)both parts unified in 1990,after fall of Soviet Union. In 1994,aroused conflicts,and turmoil ensued, northern part(that of KSA) conquered southern part.Iran supported houthis in their freedom struggle.

Dear,Pakistan has never fought a proxy war.the war against terrorism is due to existential threat.not only Pakistan but every Muslim country faced same situation with respect to terror group.


Pakistan behavior remained fickle both toward free market countries and controlled market countries (communists).Pakistan participated in Afgan war due myopic establishment decisions and some parochial gains in the form of Saudi aid.

Pak's tilt toward west is somewhat misleading.


My typing speed is very slow.you should read Hussain haqqani book,Pakistan between mosque and military. That will suffice your purpose.you can download it from internet in PDF format.

No this is not right Pakistan is not participating in Yemen war. Pakistan even did not join the Saudi call for joining against Yemen.

The most updated, comprehensive and authentic information is the report of the Yemen Panel of Experts. The panel was asked by the UN security council to prepare a report on the Yemen issue. though it a difficult read for some new reader of current affairs. However, I find is useful to post here.

No, proxies are important part of reshaping the vested interest of western giants.
What do you perceive about operation desert storm in 90, mossadaqs topple from Iran, and most blatant episode of Zias islamism in Pakistan.

Its more than those vested interest.A testimony to the worlds geographer that how much Afg-pk holds some importance to the rest of the world.Did you got it, why war on terror was initiated from Asia's buffer zone.

Not somewhat, but almost, look at the CETO & CENTO, and most importantly Cory we are labelled as terrorist, despite of the fact that all 9/11 perpeteators were Saudi passport holder, again who cares.

I did study this guy but literally I am telling you he was not the ambessador of Pakistan but capitalist giants.

On Pakistan's Foreign Policy the book of Abdul Sattar is also a must read. This will give you Pakistani perspective on the developments like post 1979 Afghan war and post 9/11 war on terror.
