  1. Promotion structure
  2. Authority that it offers
  3. Honour and prestige that is attached with this group in our society
  4. Dynamic nature i.e. whether it offers you diverse portfolios in your service like DMG etc. or you have to stick to a rigid assignment throughout your service tenure i.e. Postal or Railways
  5. Above all, the most important point is your temperament. For example PSP or DMG or FSP are top level groups but that doesn't mean that they will offer equal oppourtunities and satisfaction to every one. A gentleman having a sensitive temperament or a lady having a typical aptitude like that of housewife will never ever adjust herself in milieu of Police Department... Similarly a gentleman/lady who is not good in economics because of his/her temperament will never get smooth sailing in economics related departments like Tax or PAAS. Therefore thoroughly analyse your temperament and aptitude before joining any service.... target the ultimate aim of your life and not merely clearing CSS and getting allocation...

Wish you all Best of Luck!!!

Thank you for your valuable information.

Please comment my preference with critical approach and give me your valuable suggestions.

1.DMG
2.PSP
3.FSP
4.CEG
5.ITG
6.OMG
7.PAAS
8.CTG
9.ML&CG
10.Railways
11.Information Group
12. Postal

Also please tell me about PAAS, CTG, ML&CG as i know nothing about these group. Specially comments on the perks and previleges of PAAS. Urgent response is needed as FPSC give us 7 days.

@honor
U had better advisedly keep PAAS before OMG.Mobility to districts, promotion prospects etc make,to me,PAAS superior to OMG.Present Chief Secretary Sindh is frm PAAS.Perks, privileges too for PAAS are more than OMG.
There is a little mobility for OMG courtesy uncertain Local Govt System otherwise OMG is confined to FEDERAL SECTT.

Shabir Sethar

Aslam o alaikum,

My opinion is second to Brother shabbir Sethar. if i were you I would place
PAAS over ITG than CTG and rest is ok....

prefering PaAS over ITG is debatable but I have asked many Senior CSPs abt it and they opine that PAAS offers more handsome prospects of upwards mobility than ITG (or PRS)...

Wish u best of luck...

I understand about PSP but what is it about DMG that most of the candidates are preferring it for the first or second priority:s

If you do not now about DMG then perhaps you are a novice in the field of civil services. DMG is the successor of CSP ( Civil Service Pakistan ).It remained the most cherished of all services and still is the most powerful of all other services. It received a severe hammering during Gen (Rtd) Pervaiz Musharraf and we saw candidates at merit number 60-70 getting DMG but since the democratically elected government took over we are noticing the revival of this group. In css 2008 DMG again took over PSP as the number one choice pf passed candidates. ( Last candidate from Punjab who secured DMG was at merit number 42 and the one who got PSP was at 56).

But it all depends on one's own temperament and aptitude towards the service. PsP is still attractive due to its complete independence in its internal functioning. Both services have their pluses and minuses. You should opt the one you feel best for yourself and where you'll get opportunity to show your true colours.

Regards

@ Maneka:

You are right. DMG is one of the best groups though an argument can be presented in the favour of any of the top 4 (DMG, PSP, FSP, Customs).....

I wanted to ask is OMG not being offered this year as the form does not show this group.......

Congrats on being Super Moderator

Well as far as i can remember OMG was not even mentioned in our preference form as well, we had to manually write it down in the initial stages. I guess when we had to give our final preferences just before we entered our Interview rooms, those forms mentioned OMG as one of the service groups on offer.

So just write it down manually and hope for the best.
