The first advice for preparing for CSS would be that, from today you should read Daily Dawn until your CSS papers are over.
Second advice is that if possible than read Monthly magazine Herald and Newsline.
These things will be helpful directly in following CSS papers;

1. Essay
2. Current Affair
3. Pakistan Affair
4. International Relations
5. Sociology

Reliable source of knowledge and creativity :

This is Second source of knowledge for preparing CSS.

The most reliable source for information and presenting of news in concise is broad castes by BBC URDU and BBC HINDI which has close effects particularly on Pakistan and India and generally upon Asia. So for having knowledge and command on Current affair people who are thinking to apply for CSS should start listening BBC URDU and BBC HINDI, particularly from 7 PM Pakistan time to 8:30.
With that they should keep visiting and reading the web site www.bbcurdu.com and particularly BAAT SEY BAAT of Wusatullah Khan, as his articles helps to have creativity, and nice way of analysing and with that it contains concise information on particular topic.

Take a general look on all sections of daily dawn but with particular look upon Editorial, International and main page news. As they has current and useful information and analysis upon different topics.

Dear Pureapak!

I had suggested these sources of information and knowledge for new aspirants of CSS.
Although you are right about the problem, this problem happen with most of guys in papers. It's nice to refer books for that problem. But remember that the books will just give suggestions, and it may be called necessary guidelines. It's up to individual to follow and practice these guidelines; so that it should lead to perfection. But someone will be spoon feeding them, but remember that just struggle will lead to the perfection.

Dear Masood

Don't you think that watching above mentioned programs would take too much time? All the items in the discussion would not be relevant to exam. I would suggest the following,

1. Dawn daily (A must source)
2. Contemporary Affairs by Carvan publishers (Quarterly)
3. Journal of Strategic studies Islamabad (Quarterly)
4. Jehangeer world times magazine (Monthly)

Having gone through these resources if you do well, you can get very good marks in exam.

Some people also advice Contemporary Affairs by Imtiaz Shahid however that book does not seem to me better then CA by Carvan publishers. In Imtiaz shahid book sometime he publishes stories without taking its worth into account.

You might be right, but I had suggested these programs to help guys to know different angles of different issues of day to day life and important occasions, and with diverse angles they may form their views on solid grounds. With that I mean about these programs that the person himself decide about the importance of topic in discussion and self decisions making about the importance of topics to watch may help them in paper to give weighted the important topics. With that many other things.

You may watch these programs of Hamid Mir and than judge about the importance of these shows
