would new subjects maximize the marks or will be a cause of failure ?

New subjects can be scoring for candidates with background in subjects and vice versa. Overall scoring.

That totally depend upon your caliber and how you opt to the subjects. If you fullfill the chekcer's criteria even in a risky subject, it ll be a maximizing one for you. So no subject is risky or scoring, its just the way how you handle it and produce in the sheets.
