THE decision taken by Musharraf to reduce the age limit for CSS candidates has put the fate of many in jeopardy. The present government had shown a keen interest in resolving this issue.

Though a summary had also been sent to the authorities concerned in this regard, the matter is still lingering on.

The delay in this matter has caused much desperation among aspirants.

I request the president, the prime minister and the authorities concerned to take immediate notice of this grave issue and raise the age limit to at least 30 years. SAMINA SYED

THIS is apropos of Rana Umar Farooque’s letter (Oct 30) about the CSS age limit which he wrote keeping in mind the education standard of elite institutions.
The CSS age limit should be increased because of the education standard of underdeveloped areas and the plight of marginalised classes. There are some areas in the country where the standard of education is not up to the mark with that of Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Candidates belonging to underprivileged families do not have good educational background. Consequently, they prepare for CSS examinations after completing their master’s degrees; therefore, they need more time for competing with those candidates who have received a good education right from the primary level.

Moreover, if a candidate passes the CSS examinations at the age of 29 or 30 years, he will be more mature and experienced than such candidates who qualify at the age of 25 years.

I appeal to the president and the prime minister to help candidates from underdeveloped areas and underprivileged families by increasing the CSS age limit. AIJAZ ALI CHANDIO Khairpur Mir’s

not majority there isw a major minority though i m am a masters degree holder apart from this fact it is bigger fact that css is basicaly general aptiotude test it is not that kind of research oriented test which masters degree holders mostly claim. if there is no standard of ba in pakistan then one should realise that masters also possess nothing more then a certificate
