CSS-2013 Physics and Applied Mathematics Optionals

Hi any interested in group study for Physics and Applied Mathematics please reply to this thread. Since Physics and App Maths required a great amount of time and practice so I believe its the best time to start preparation. Serious aspirants for these subjects please reply. Thanks

You need to reconsider your options, really.
Physics and applied maths, both are lengthy and tough.
You should think about changing the subjects, unless you are extremely good at both subjects and are confident that you can prepare them with ease..

Faisal86 Sunday, February 05, 2012 12:08 AM

I just don't understand one thing that why do most people discourage the pupils while they tend to take the subjects like Physics and especially the Applied Mathematics. They may be right when they say that both are lengthy subjects as compared to the rest, still a person who had already surfed 16 years or so learning such subjects should possess the guts to handle these subjects. Besides, there is no short cut to the css, as the saying goes, and neither of the rest of the subjects are that easy as far as css is concerned. So, if a person can afford devoting months to the wholly new subjects he should have a subject or two of his/her personal interest at side simultaneously.

azure Sunday, February 05, 2012 01:35 PM

This is not about discouraging anyone.
I myself have opted these two subjects and therefore i am in a position to give a suggestion. I will stick to it, physics and maths both chosen at the same time are going to give him a tough time. Either take physics or maths.
-
I have done this mistake, that with an engineering background, i thought maths and physics will be easier to handle. But no, there's much more to the syllabus. Engineering studies makes a very small portion of the syllabus content.
-
If one has a firm grip on these both subjects, its fine. sirf is base pr ye subjects lena because you have studied them in fsc, then engineering, that will be a wrong decision.

azure Sunday, February 05, 2012 01:40 PM

A couple of days ago, i had come across someone's profile, who even though he was an electrical engineer, had opted for neither physics not maths.
-
And another who, being a BSc in double maths, physics, had not opted for these 2 subjects.
-

PS: No intention of discouraging, just sharing an observation.
:)

@ azure

Brother, my post was not specifically meant at you. I was just giving a general perception. Still, if you felt offended, I am sorry for that. The point I was trying to make was that the subjects by themslves does not matter in the sort of game like css, while the mastery of a specific subject does.

I myself am an electronic engineer who appeared with geography, journalism, sociology and Indo-Pak in 2011. Even though I managed to pass all the above mentioned subjects alongwith all compulsories yet I managed to score just 527 and fell short of aggregate. It was just then when I realised that had I appeared with a subject like Applied mathematics, which no doubt would have required a lot of practice, but it was a subject for which I had aquired the aptitude for, I would then have certainly managed to cross the 600 barricade.

A female member, perhaps Aisha, of this forum managed to score 190 this year in Applied Mathematics. Now see, which other subject can provide you with this much of marks, regardless of your grasp over it.

I read some five books of Indo-Pak of the writers like S.M.Ikram, Ishwari Prasad, K.Ali, Lanepoole and I.H.Qureshi, still just managed to score 79 out of 200. So wierd. I realised, that had I spent those three months of Indo-Pak to App.Mathematics, it would have provided me with atleast 160 marks if not 190like Aisha. Nearly the double of Indo-Pak's. And the resultant 600 plus.

I was also discouraged at the time of selection of subjects to abstain from going for the subject like App.Maths. I does not intend to blame others for my failure but had I evaluated my capabilities as per my own aptitude and life experiences, I would not have committed the folly.

Moreover, the topper of 2008 Css, the female, had appeared with URDU as one of her optionals and she made her way with that. So, it is the aptitude that matters at the end of the day. I can't even imagine passing the Urdu paper of Css because I have not developed the aptitude for it since my childhood, whereas, on the contrary, her case might have been the different. She might have read alot of Urdu novels and poetry even before having a look over the syllabus for Urdu.

In a nut shell, no doubt there are some general subjects like sociology, journalism, Public Ad, some local language, Muslim Law etc that every candidate can cover but to shine in a specific subject with distinction one needs to possess the strong background as well as the interest for that particular subject. This is so because mere passing is not the ultimate object in a competitive exam that allocates on the basis of merit and distinction. Score does count . . .

Best of Luck.

azure Monday, February 06, 2012 02:12 AM

No offence taken, one thing. :)
-
And yeah, i do agree with you.
While selecting the subjects for my optionals, the teacher at the academy insisted a lot that i neither take physics nor maths or take one of these.
He was suggesting other subjects like geography, sociology, Muslim law,Persian etc...that i have never studied nor i find them interesting. And as you mentioned, i was also afraid i don't have aptitude for them. So, i had opted for these same, physics, applied maths.
But the problem is, there's a lot in physics and especially maths, that i haven't studied before or have gone through a little, just enough that could help me in my engineering. There are no academies that are preparing for these two subjects from CSS point of view.
So i had to face difficulty preparing for them.
And then my observation that people USUALLY do not take these both subjects...i finally made the conclusion that anyone who is going to opt for them, is doing a mistake.

Kayani29 Tuesday, February 07, 2012 11:42 AM

Azure the thing is aptitude and I know I have aptitude for maths and physics. Why because I can not cram things and there is very little cramming in Physics and Maths. Thats why I have chosen these subjects. There are people who have taken both and scored some extremely good marks like M. Afzal of 2009 he scored 158 in Physics and 174 in App. Maths; also Ayesha Mahmood of 2011 she scored 128 in Physics and 190 in App. Maths. Its because they have temperament and aptitude for these courses and I believe I too have :)

my subjects are app.maths , physics, psychalogy...any one interested in group studies.

afifa904 Thursday, May 24, 2012 04:01 PM

yes i agree,
a person should go for the heavy combination (physics and applied maths) only if he has a very strong apptitude and background for it.

and i am going for it.

Shahzad Sial Thursday, May 24, 2012 04:10 PM

i appeared in ce 2012 with same combination. i can help u out................

isamohmand Friday, May 25, 2012 08:40 PM

I have been attempting with physics since 2010. Being an electrical engineer, I thought it would put me at an advantage vis a vis other candidates but my experience so far has been not good. On surface, Phyisics seems a scoring subject given the fact that the paper contains numericals but the examiners are quite stingy in rewarding marks and this makes the paper low-scoring.Average score in my opinion is around 110.

adrish arslan Friday, May 25, 2012 10:55 PM

my friend obtained 160 marks in 2010 physics paper.then, how can you say that it is a low scoring subject. It all depends on your preparation. His experience regarding css was that examiners award zero or full marks in numericals. Therefore,if your answer is wrong they will award you zero marks.

Shahzad Sial Saturday, May 26, 2012 06:27 AM

i am agree with adresh arsalan. i attempted well in theory of phy 2012. all was well. no numerical was wrong. i attempted 4 qustion right. i hope to get 170+..................... being electrical engr

afifa904 Saturday, May 26, 2012 06:45 PM

shahzad sahi plz suggest me the best books for physics,,,,
i am consulting resnick hallliday volume 1 and 2 only.
is it sufficient???????????

adrish arslan Saturday, May 26, 2012 06:52 PM

fsc physics books and halliday rasnick is sufficient to get good marks in physics.........

Mind Blowing combination
my subjects are app.maths , physics, psychalogy...any one interested in group studies.
if you prepare strategically and conscientiously, you can brush everyone aside to be Written Topper. Immaculate combination.
Good Luck Bro
Stick to it.
my subjects are app.maths , physics, psychalogy...any one interested in group studies.
well zahaib,i appreciate your boldness for opting potential subjects, but if you would like to amend, change your physics to geography.
else engineering sciences+medical sciences+social sciences would require a great memory to retain these dimension in final compilations.Still if you are comfortable then go ahead.

Shahzad Sial Saturday, June 02, 2012 03:30 PM

Applied math is best optional

sarmad85 Thursday, June 07, 2012 01:49 PM

AOA, I am also appearing with applied math. My background is b.sc double math can anyone tell me is it enough or I have to prepare topics of M.sc math? Actually I found that last two portions of paper 2 are not covered with b.sc math. Moreover can anyone suggest my books which cover the whole applied math subject.

WaqasAliKhan Thursday, June 07, 2012 02:41 PM

Apploied Maths

I too want to opt the applied Maths. I believe that I can deal with the subject...What you people say .....

sb kuch available hy. numerical analysis with fortron and C by dr.saeed akhtar bhatti. dr.naeem akhtar bhatti.
i feel all paper was from that book. very sound and precis book

saadqureshi Sunday, June 10, 2012 03:27 PM

me too going for app maths and physics and as an electrical engineer i have an aptitude for these subjects as there is no cramming just logic and concept. as i have read some ppl are saying that the course is lengthy or we have not studied some topics they should know that no one has studied all these topics in their classroom the course is soo vast that no degree can cover all these topics of maths or physics. for example we engineers don't study tensors (infact i heard this name 1st time while reading the course contents but after some googling i figured out that they are like vectors so i can do it) so the point is fpsc wants us to do some digging and do self study from books and manuals and internet and some teachers ( if u have access to any teacher ). and last thing is self belief which is the key to success.
