Governance & Public Policies
Anyone taking Governance & Public Policies ?
which books u plan to use ? |
I considered the subject but would probably go for its tested variant, Public Administration, not least because the 'right' preparation material for Public Administration is much easily available and better defined.
Any thoughts? |
I agree with you that material of PA will be easily available but it is a very risky subject.
|
Risky? Is there a problem with the scoring trend?
|
Which of these two subjects, that is, public ad or Governance & Public Policies should one opt for in combination with political science??? I think the latter has a lot in common with pol.sci. Suggest please keeping in view the subj. material of these. Regards
|
There would be some overlapping in the syllabi of Governance & Public Policy and Political Science:
e.g. 'II. Governance Theories; VIII. Multi-level Governance in Pakistan; IX. Federalism etc. will have similar subject content as Political Science. Similarly, 2 Topics within Public Administration may overlap with Political Science, i.e. IX.Organization of Provincial and Local Government; X. Governance and Administrative Reforms. I think if the consideration is 'overlapping', Governance would be a better choice. |
I have a masters degree in G & PP and all the course contents are available on internet. you can easily find them on google.
|
kindly suggest some good books which should cover and focus the topics listed in the fpsc syllabus

We can't rely merely on web material. Please suggest some good books. "Some" means 2-3 books which are enough for preparation. |

I used the word "merely".Hard Copies of books are more easily skimmed, highlighted, revised and then retained as well. You can write side-notes containing the facts and figures and half of the work of memorization gets completed. You can read book any where, where there is quiet and calm niche, take it on your roof, under the tree, in the sun, sleep it making your pillow, and then wake up, start reading again...No stress on eyes as you have to study continuously for 12-16 hours. Books have usually more authentic material if the versions are latest. It has material at one place in compiled form, chapter by chapter, clearing your concepts and synchronizing the thought. Digital copies of many local books are not available e.g an excellent book for this subject written by Maleeha Lodhi...Local books have more comprehensive, to-the point material sometimes (though can be fallacious and un-authentic). At the end of the days, you will find it more helpful to have your material at one place, authored by one person, with one style...You know every author has it's own style, and you get baffled sometimes "merely" with different styles during CSS studies... Even material present on internet is sometimes outdated...Even two authentic sites will have different facts and figures. Even sometimes internet get's hiccoughs, and refuses to give you the required material. So, material from internet has it's own importance, but you can't deny that 1,2 books with relevant material, have a relieving effect on your nerves while preparation. Every one can't afford the tabs and such latest technology. I know a CSP officer who only relied on the scrap material( "Raddi"), second, third hand books and then someone gave him the membership of library...It's 2015, but poverty and poor people still exist in Pakistan. D.ps seldom reflect our personalities, I guess. |

but nothing can replace booksas these are the best guide afterall .. |

(1) Governance and Public Policy by Imtiaz Shahid ( thought most of it is copy pasted from wikipedia and other sites, not a comma changed!)
(2) Encyclopedia of Governance by Mark Bevir, you can download it from net in pdf format. It is very good book. Read only those topics mentioned in the syllabus. |

I believe we should all start from the beginning i.e. the syllabus and cross check it will all resources we have an find the most relevant book. |
