Default What effects will 'new policy of saving electricity' have on people?

Prime Minister and Minister of Water & Power announced new measures to save electricity and decrease load shedding:

No air-conditioner will be allowed before 11am in all government offices. No officer below grade 20 will be allowed the use of air conditioner

All shops and commercial centers would close after 8pm except pharmacy and bakeries etc..

Power of billboards and neon signs would be cut immediately and their owners should use alternate energies like solar

50% less lights will be used in all government offices

Government offices will have 2 holidays per week and this will be reviewed after 2-3 months

Industries should announce alternate weekly offs/staggering offs

PEPCO will reduce the electricity to KESC (about 300 MW to be decreased)

Marriage halls will be allowed for 3 hours function only till 9 pm. all decorative light are not allowed

Circular debt of 116 billion will be removed within 15 days.

Electricity would will provided for agriculture in off-peak hours

RPP of 605 MW to be used

who will determine in govt departments which light should be turned off?

officers above grade 20 come to office after 10 ,no effect of it?

people of karachi are going to raise their voice?

business will be greatly affected and implementation by govt will lead to
further clash?

how circular debt be removed and what about future policies?

no new source of electricity generation even for short term and long term?
programs or IPPs announced are about to get into system.what about new projects?these IPP are going to use oil which will increase cost?

no new hydel source?

what about water during peak hours in agriculture?will it affect?

why technocrats keep on saying that billions are spent on different projects preparation only but no work on any project started yet?

many sources like wind, river flow or run of river are easy and give cheap electricity.why not look for these sources?

electricity charges are going to raise ,who will lower those charges and how?

nothing new offered. no new dam or project. was it just a drama to calm people and tell them that now they are legally bound to turn off lights if not ready for load shedding?

these are few questions and how do you see new policy ?

its not a gud policy at all, it will add to our economic crisis, the investors r already hesitating in investing in our country, the rate of umemployment is increasing, ppl r frustrated, it'll effect our exports as well, the conditions r already v poor. we should rather work on the different ways of generating n producing power, as PPP is in power n they r from sindh so they can take an initiative of working on producing power from coal

Goverment is expected to do more than these measures. Why they are not considering the offers made by IRAN and CHINESE government to overcome the energy crisis.

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW dams .... Consensus on KALABAGH DAM ...BOLD STANCE on Water dispute with INDIA.....

Did you people notice that there were three chandeliers hanging from the ceiling in the conference held by Khadim e Punjab and all three were lighted? Do you think that air conditioners were not switched on during all these energy-saving compaigns type meeting? This is what will make people against every politician in the country. And i see that this situation, if continued, will lead Pakistan to a state of revolt against government by the people themselves, not by the opposition parties, as they are themselves doing nothing for the people.

Well the move of conservation of electricity is, somehow, a good move in the current scenario but it is certainly not helpfull for ohter then emergency pahse which means 2 to 4 months.

The government should have come across an unanimous decision about the dams, energy projects, and other option like coal, wind, solar rather then only asking people to cutt their usage of electircity off.

The questions raised by the thread intiater are in the mind of each comman man as he is asking who will take care about offices? who will observe? why not some work instead of cutting the coats according to cloths?

Default Two Days off for conservation of electricity, what an irony

According to a latest decision taken by our government, offices will remain off for two days in a week; i.e. saturday and sunday, while the time of working hours has been set from 0800 am to 0400 pm, with a lunch break of "half hour" from 0100 pm to 0130 pm and prayer break of "one and half hour" on friday from 1230 pm to 0200 pm. Previously the office timings were from 0800 am to 0200 pm. Lets count how many working hours were there before and how many working hours are there now.

It makes 6 hours from 0800 am to 0200 pm and 4 hours from 0800 am to 1200 pm and we had 6 working days. The number of working hours that was in practice is thus counted to be 34. Following the new plan; it makes 8 hours from 0800 am to 0400 pm, 7.5 hours after deducting half hour lunch break and 6.5 hours after deducting 1.5 hour prayer break and we have 5 working days. The number of working hours is, therefore, counted to be 36.5. That means the number of working hours has been increased in the new plan. Even followed ideally, how are they going to conserve electricity by increasing the working hours.

Before we had one weekend day; i.e. sunday, but there was no leniency in loadshedding on weekend. Now we have two weekend days, but our government has not assured us of no loadshedding on weekends.

No plans are in progress, or even pondered, for production of electricity, except our minister insisting on rental power project. How are they gonna solve this energy crisis. This seems as another joke made by our beloved government.

Needless to say,Pakistan has enough natural resources to generate electricity for coping the current load shetting problem, instead of exploiting them our leaders are turning their attention towards useless policies.

1. Two days Governmental institutions will remain off, will certainly encourge red-tapism and working process in our institutions will be more poor.

2. A/c will not work in the Government offices Joth numbr 2

3. 50 % light will be used in goverment offices, will officials perform their duties in dim light

4. Industries and billboards owners should turn their focus over renewable energy (Export and investment pe suicide hamla)

5.C M,Governor,Prime minister, and President should not be provided electricity at least 10 hours daily(Phir ehsas hoga enko garmi ka)

6. Shops must be remained close after 8 pm ( loug shopping karty hee es time k baad hain) Business waly loug bhi gaye.

Jesa awaam wese hukmiraan

people rejected govt's idea of electricity saving:
traders and businessmen are not ready for such schedule,
2 days off in a week are also rejected by various segments and boldly rejected
main aim of this was to create trust between people and govt, and it failed to do so
no check and balance in govt institutions, people not ready for check and balance or don't believe that govt will be able to maintain any check and balance

overall rejected by all fields of society and its not going to bring what it is planned for.

conditions of electricity are going to be good after october 2010 because many projects delayed are going to come in system
moreover in a program,Salman shah former finance minister said that we must not rely on oil for energy ,as one more 'oil shock '( i.e when one barrel costs more than 140$) will make our economy stand still
why government is not doing anything for hydroelectric projects.?
one more thing we cannot blame India for our water crisis and the reason is that we had lost most of our cases of water under Indus water treaty.
India simply moves forward or builds dam by claiming that Pakistan is wasting most of the water in sea so India has the right to preserve or store water according to Indus water treaty and is doing exactly like that.
If Pakistan do not build dams ,we cannot stop them from making more dams. Government should make consensus and start work on various projects now. otherwise it will be late.
