As far as nuclear war is concerned, we are 10 times, lesser in number, in nuclear warfare, death toll on Pakistan side, would be much highers, considering our lack of "strategic depth". Also, Pakistan is not naturally gifted. Balochistan, Sindh, South Punjab are veritable deserts. We have little resource. India on the contrary has one of the most fertile regions in it's domination. The result is that it can foot the bill of maintaining an army, whereas we cannot afford to sustain an army. Still, we have strategic concerns that warrant the maintenance of standing army. But how can we fund this army? Our major budget outlay is in defense. So, what to do? Remember, Soviet Union had more nuclear weapons, better aircrafts and a more ammunition then US during the height of cold war, but it's economy was fragile. US never landed any bomb in USSR, it simply let it implode. USSR kept on "investing" in arms, at the end, it was broke. Economic difficulties led to break up of Soviet Union. Weak economies, implode nations, a strong economy is a major pre - requisite for maintaining defense etc. Now, in order to fund our expenditures, we had to take loans, aids etc from US, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, but they always compromised our sovereignty. U2 incident during soviet era, clearly showed that we had become a client state of US. Now, even our leadership condemns Drone attacks, but they can't survive a day without foreign aid. End result, we take loans IMF, allow people like Raymond Davis, to roam freely inside Pakistan, kill people and then go away conveniently, we also allow US marines to enter deep inside Pakistan and kill Osama bin laden. What is this? this is called pawning.

Foreign aid, is generally obtained by countries, who have totally wrong priorities. Those countries end up broke and they are then exploited by other countries. Soviet Union, again is a classical example. By engaging in an arms race, with a weak economy, USSR imploded. Had Soviets realized, that they had little funds, they would have reformed themselves. Same goes for Pakistan. We have no schools, No Universities of international repute. We have exceedingly poor health care and education, but we invest in maintaining a huge military force. Poor education, means more talibans, relgious fanatics with little avenues of employment. These either indulge in anti state activities or take up robbing, looting and plundering innocent people. Both, ways people suffer. We have to realize, that we have to curtail our expenditure, stop reliance on foreign aid. How can we fight with india, when we cannot fight with poverty, ignorance and illiteracy.

I would like to summarize my points

1. Nations with skewed, distorted or outrightly wrong priorities end up in "misallocating" their resources.

2. Poor countries, have little resources natural or man - made. The first thing is to realize, that we do not have resources, then work for increasing those resources. For example, we are told that Pakistan is blessed with everything. This is parochial thinking at it's height. Pakistan is a desert. Only North Punjab and KPK are fertile. We have no oil and little gas is left. We have only one resource, that is human resource. We have lots of hands, that if "educated" and provided with skills can become productive resource. But, instead of focusing of education, we are more concerned with defense. Hence, we mis allocate resources. The net result is that we end up with foreign aid. Foreign aid means loss of sovereignty, loss of integrity and loss of repute. As a result, our defense, which siphons all our funds, is also compromised example, drone attacks, OBL incident, U2 incident.

The need is to realize, that foreign aid, means wrong decision making. Wrong decision result from wrong assumptions. Wrong assumption, result from wrong facts, wrong interpretation of reality.[/QUOTE]

In case of Pakistan, it is a blessing.
And everyone knows the reasons why?

Since, common man in the country gone corrupt and intolerant. No one can blame defense forces, establishment division, politicians, civil society and governments.Because, they are all once from those common man.
The lack of goodwill, lack of viril to steer country out of severe crises and lack of visionary approach left governments of Pakistan nowhere but to execute all their activities by foreign aids.These HELPS are given to us since 1947 and we have no framework or backbone to stand on our own in any single discipline of life. Our development, progress and survival is now dependant on these alms.
So, enjoy these aids as blessings until a bold and visionary leader do not come to the stage with viable , aid-free national strategy.:shy:shy

We are not willing to accept criticism and reality. Unfortunately, Pakistan stands at the bottom of all development indices. We have rampant corruption, poor law and order and endemic corruption. Am I telling a lie? Tell me how many countries have full blown insurgency in it's largest province? Tell me how many countries have Tehrik e Taliban operating and bombing entire cities? How many countries allow Drone Attacks? How many countries have rampant corruption? Please don't live in fool's paradise, accept reality. Pakistan is the verge of institutional collapse. There is no geo - strategic importance of Pakistan. Whatever it is, it is of little or no significance. We have always been told, we have an important geo - strategic location, what is it? Nothing. If we have such resources, where are they? Accept, we have no resources and then work to improve them. If we keep on saying that we have all resources in the world, we won't grasp reality. Tell me how many reserves of oil, Pakistan has? Tell me how may gold mines are there in Pakistan, with production figures? Nothing, my friend. I am as much Pakistani as you are, but I want to accept reality. Thank you.

The thing is, so far as I see it, that the Pakistanis are ideologically confused people and we have not yet come up to a conclusion regarding what kind of state do we want, whether current international system, which is forcing a culture and political system of its own these days, is ok for us and we should wholeheartedly accept it or that we should stick to our roots and and strive to form a model Islamic state. Thus Pakistanis are unable to decide whether the west, ofcourse led by the US, is our ideological ally or a foe who wants to destroy our traditions and religion. So I feel that the real curse is the confusion, not foreign aid (which should be avoided though). Aid is merely the help one human, or a nation of humans :D, anticipates from others, at times even from enemies, while facing dire times in their lives.

Foriegn aid is not bad for the country like Pakistan because foreign aid are not loans which will effect the country`s economy and other circumstances if we utilize the foreign aid appropriately then definitely we can go on such fast track of prosperity that we can leave other countries behind but corruption and other greed of politicians do not grant the perfect utilization of foreign aid if you`ll consider then you`ll notice that there is USAID which is working best in pakistan but because they are not involving the regime so regime is also not allowing them to work on fully freely and uncontrollable mode. in short " foreign aids are useful for every country conditions apply " .

As far as Pakistan is concerned we better know that US is not providing the AID for economic or humanistic purpose.
From late 70s to early 90s US has increased the war-aid , previously the economic aid was dominating. Thanks to this AID and Ayub khan's brilliance that Pak rapidly fueled its economy.
After the fall of USSR in 90s US reduced its aid.
After 9/11 US again started aiding Pak to exterminate terrorism from the region ( as US wanted to take control of Afghanistan which she couldnt had without the support of Pak)
Since than Pak is getting aid from US more for fighting for her and less for survival...

If we briefly look at economic aid of US.........

In 2010, the US economic assistance to Pakistan equalled $1.8 billion. While the amount is indeed large, however on a per capita basis, this translates into a mere $10.3 for the 180-million Pakistanis. Should we believe that Pakistan’s survival has rested on a mere $10.3 per person in civilian assistance from the United States?


War aid......


According to the Government of Pakistan, the direct and indirect costs from Nato’s war in Afghanistan, which began on October 07, 2001, has reached over $68 billion. These economic losses are an order of magnitude higher than what the US has offered in economic and military assistance to Pakistan. And who to account for the 36,000-plus Pakistanis who have perished as a result of the Nato' war efforts in the region. A fair compensation would require the US to engage the United Nations to verify Pakistan’s claims and then reimburse Pakistan in full for proven claims....
