Pakistan would do well to speak out on the UN floor and acknowledge insurgency in Balochistan. But what if the principle of self-determination, that is so 'integral' to US foreign policy, is applied elsewhere around the world? Pakistan should ask out loud, " That if Balochis deserve independence, so do the Basque separatists comprising parts of France and Spain-why, didnt Sarkozy have to hide in a pub the other day to thwart Basque demos? So do the numerous African-Americans in the US who want a separate state or country. So do the Naxalites in 7 states of India. By the same principle, why arent Scots in the UK allowed to form a separate country ASAP despite massive public appeal?"
On an average there are about 2-3 separatist, violent movements in each EU state today.
Such movements are a lot older than Baloch movement that does not even have massive support apart from the misgivings of 3 major tribal families in the region, i.e Mengals, Bugtis and Marris.

US bill on Balochistan sovereignty is the reflection of two broad facts.

1- The uncontrolled interfence of US in Pakistan.

2- The vulnerability of federal units of Pakistan.

US has to interfere because it is super power. This assumption as projected by our policymakers has done the real damage. Now US is directly or indirectly interfering in state affairs. And we can do nothing except commenting on it.

Why has federation of Pakistan become vulnerable? It has been done because less powerful groups are overpowered by more powerful groups.
Powerful groups intentionally ignored the restraints of power. The way Balochistan has been treated for the last sixty years is miserable. Gas was discovered in 1952 in Sui. And Quetta got gas in 1987. The whole country was given gas but its own locals did not get it. We conducted atomic tests in Chagai. Millions were affected by these explosions. But we do not want to see the miseries of baloch because we are not affected by this gross injustice.

Now government claims that there is foreign involvement in Balochistan crisis. Foreign agents can only enter in fortress when defence is weak or becomes weak. It is the state's responsibility to provide security to Balochistan instead of blaming others. Unless state owns its responsibilties the situation in Balochistan remains worse.

No one can dare interfere in our internal affairs , if we keep our own house in order.

In this thread , mainly three issues have been raised that i would like to answer , one by one.

1- US' Unjustifiable Intervention in Pak- Affairs.

PaK-US relations unfortunately for much of the time , have been dictated by the personal needs of rulers of Pakistan ,who were most often Military Dictators. They, in search of support for their illegitimate rule, scummed before US demands , subordinating the interests of Pakistan.

This is not to say that Democratic dispensations were perfect in discharge of their duty as custodians of National Interests at International front. Yes they committed blunders but in comparisons to their counterpart in Uniforms, the civilians' foreign policy remained more independent.

Every country in the world enhance its own interests. Pakistan is blamed for meddling in affairs of Afghanistan and a large section of international community believe Pakistan to be the major actor behind destabilisation of Afghanistan. We can dispel such claims by terming them Anti-Pakistan, Anti-Islamic Conspiracies but the international community base their allegations on such facts and proofs that are hard to deny.

The point i want to make here that if we were a strong , economically and politically stabled , we would have been in much better conditions to withstand US pressure and defend our sovereignty.

We need to maintain cordial relations with US if they are based on mutual respect . Those who support outright break down of relationship with US actually ignorant of ground realities. US being the biggest Military and Economic power is a reality that cant be denied. Its our Largest Trading Partner and our economy is largely deponent on US. In modern world , a developing country like Pakistan should avoid strained relations with any of the country on global map-let alone the Global Supper Power.

So the bottom line is that , no one interfere in our affairs, our own weaknesses invite others to come and intervene. So in stead of blaming America , we should strengthen ourselves. Our goal must be to build warm relations with US without compromising our sovereignty.

2- The resolution in question is part of american policy to meddle in affairs Pakistan.

To the extent of the resolution is by no means reflective of US Official Policy. It was an individual act. Every member of Parliament has the right to put forward any resolution on any issue as in our parliament any member can table private mebers bill. His resolution is not likely to see even the light of day and get support from his collogues in Congress.

3- Baluchistan Situation

It is a reality that Baluchistan's Situation is exacerbating with every passing day. We can no more satisfy ourselves by pointing fingers to foreign intervention and by seeking refuge in "Conspiracy Theory".

Even if there is some foreign hand, it is due to our internal weakness. The issue of Baluchistan desperately needs attention of those who are at helm.Instead of wasting our energies on blaming others, all the powerful sections of society such as media, political parties, civil society, intelligentsia etc must impress upon the political solution of Baluchsitan Crises.
