the sole purpose of resistance of ANP is the support of MQM for the bill.PML(Q) has got all it wanted with Deputy PM and more than 2dozen seats in cabinet.PML(F) is just trying to get higher prices for his few votes as it is not matter of principle for them. They have already supported a dual nationality holder as PM of Pakistan (SHAUKAT AZIZ)

MQM is pushing this bill to get the support from his huge vote bank in the foreign countries and especially to reserve a seat or office for their "QAID-e-TEHREEK"

For information of all and sundry, the Bill has not yet been passed by the Parliament yet, rather the Federal Cabinet has given its principle approval for framing of law. As per Rules of Business, after giving principle approval by the Cabinet, the matter is referred to Ministry of Law for drafting of Bill, thereafter it is introduced at the floor of Parliament (to its both floors i.e National Assembly and Senate).

The PPPP lead government is trying to enlist support of opposition parties to get this Bill passed from the Parliament. However, opposition parities are having reservations....

Further, a bill to bar the civil servants to have dual nationality was introduced at the floor of Parliament in December, 2011, but nothing has been finalized on it so far. Perhaps it is lying pending with some Standing Committee of National Assembly..... Many bureaucrats oppose this bar, because they are holders of dual nationality.....

Parliaments of many countries have barred its members to have dual nationality, because it questions the loyalty of holder of dual nationality... If a Parliamentarian hold nationality of other country, it means he is not fully loyal to that country.... Alas, majority of political lot/those at whelms of affairs are disloyal to the very soil of the country....

Our politicians do not know that what they are doing. They have been heading the nation towards revolution, just like French revolution. They have been passing biills in order to protect their wealth, tenure and theft.

They want to pass the bill against contempt of court as well as dual nationality so that they can do whatever they want and after completing their tenure they can run to other country without any problem.

They will face extreme problems in upcoming days. Common public of Pakistan will not let them run.

SLAMABAD: A petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the new contempt of court bill, DawnNews reported. The National Assembly had on Monday passed the 13-clause bill which exempts “holders of public office” from the mischief of contempt in “exercise of powers and performance of functions” and allows for suspension of a sentence during the pendency of an appeal.
Petitioner Siddique Baloch has said that by proposing the bill, the government has taken an unconstitutional and unlawful step.
Baloch requested the court to declare the contempt bill as void and listed the federation and the law ministry as parties in his petition.
Bill passed in NA; to be tabled in Senate
On Monday, the Pakistan Muslim League-N, the largest opposition party, and some other opposition members protested against the bill but their opposition seemed to be only token as they participated in the voice vote with shouts of ‘no’ against ‘ayes’.
The bill must be passed also by the Senate and get a formal presidential assent to become law, which will repeal the existing effective contempt law: The Contempt of Court Ordinance, 2003 (V of 2003), under which a July 19 order of a Supreme Court bench disqualified then prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani from holding his office and membership of the National Assembly with effect from his contempt of court conviction by another bench on April 26.
In view of a controversy about which of several contempt laws should have actually held the field since a 1976 act, the new bill confirms the repeal also of the Contempt of Court Act 1976, the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2003 (IV of 2003) and the Contempt of Court Ordinance 2004.

Dual nationality bill presented in Senate

ISLAMABAD: The 22nd amendment bill was presented in the Senate on Tuesday. The bill recommended abolishing restrictions on dual nationals from contesting the elections, DawnNews reported.

One of the coalition partners in the government, the Awami National Party (ANP), has decided to oppose the bill.

Senator Raza Rabbani and prominent lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan have also reportedly shown reservations on the bill.

During Tuesday’s session, federal law minister Farroq H. Naek presented the 22nd amendment bill in the Senate.

According to the bill, dual national Pakistanis of 16 countries would be allowed to assume public offices.

The law minister said that Pakistan had agreements with 16 countries over dual nationality.

The countries include Syria, Canada, Australia, Jordan, the Netherlands, Germany, United States, France, Britain and Iceland.

He said that Article 63(1)(c) of the Constitution was unfair to Pakistanis residing in foreign countries.

Haji Adeel of the ANP questioned: “Why the 22nd amendment is being tabled before the 21st?” He said that his party would oppose these changes to the Constitution.

Naek said that the 21st amendment bill had been presented in the National assembly and that it was related to increment in the judges’ pensions.

The bill has been submitted before the pertinent standing committee, the law minister said.

“The floor will open for debate,” Naek said, adding that “if anyone has reservations over it, they can suggest amendments in the bill”.

The PPP-led coalition government came up with the proposed bill in order to make lawmakers having dual nationality retain their parliament memberships as well as remain eligible to contest in the general elections as the Supreme Court disqualified some legislators including former minister Rehman Malik.

A simple move is need of the hour, SC should exercise article 190 and ask military to implement SC decisions.

Another bill just to make a safe passage for the Politicians and ruling elite to get save heavens after looting the country. The families of most politicians are already living abroad and once they will achieve their interest in Pakistan , definitely will fly to some other country with the wealth of our country. Disappointing bill. :-(

Dual nationality bill was not passed by the Parliament because of the reason that any amendment in Constitution requires 2/3 in-house majority which could not be attained..

The contempt law is under discussion in the supreme court of Pakistan...
