Default Realignment of Pak's Foreign Policy.

Russian rapprochement - about time?

The current shift in global politics places Pakistan at a key position on an international level. Owing to our proximity to the economic powerhouse that is China and our strong geopolitical position in South Asia, we stand to gain a great deal from a reorientation of our FP.

Russia's standoff with the USA and Europe - triggered by the Ukraine issue, has brought about a realignment of the international system of alliances.

How can Pakistan cash in on this? Should we play a greater role in the AIIB as initiated by China? (The first REAL challenge to the economic system as envisioned by the EU?)

How can our domestic crisis relate to our current FP?

A penny for your thoughts.

P.S: Please avoid expressing your political affiliations in strong terms - as human beings we cannot steer clear of value judgements but as CSS aspirants we can at least be tolerant of the diversity of our opinions.

Thank you.

I think Pakistan should remain neutral. Neither we should side Russia, nor U.S. We should concentrate on mending our own house first before jumping into any alliance.

Russia and Pakistan on 20th November signed their very first military cooperation agreement and laid out future avenues of cooperation, ending years of division over Islamabad's close military ties with the U.S. and Moscow's with India.

It seems that our Foreign Policy has already changing this way.

Pakistan should allign its FP in line to its interests. we should not make permanent friends and enemies. FP is all about interests. Defence agreement with Russia shows that we are shifting from old age FP of just relying on US and europe.however there is a lot to be done.
