Pakistani jailed in UK for speed camera scam

By Our Special Correspondent
LONDON, Nov 25: Mr Nawaz Sharif, not the former prime minister but a namesake, was jailed for five years here for masterminding a speed camera scam which made him a millionaire.

The Pakistani-born scam master, who owns a £3million mansion in Islamabad and a fleet of Mercedes, Toyota and BMW cars, was described by a judge as ‘thoroughly dishonest’.

The father-of-three was jailed after Reading Crown Court heard how he charged drivers caught speeding up to £200 for bogus names and addresses. A mountain of fixed penalty notices was found in his home.

Sharif, 37, was also ordered to repay more than £40,000 to Slough Borough Council after he made housing benefit claims without telling officials he owned a home in the town and a mansion in Pakistan.

Judge Christopher Critchlow heard that former taxi driver Sharif made more than £1.5million through benefit fraud and the speeding fine racket.

He used the money to build his seven bedroom house in Pakistan.

He also splashed out on luxury cars, some of which he shipped to Islamabad, including a £44,000 BMW for his frail mother, who is blind. When police raided his home in Slough they also found fake Home Office Immigration stamps, a false passport and forged documents.

Sharif admitted 21 counts of perverting the course of justice, two counts of attempting to pervert the course of justice and asked for a further 123 offences to be taken into consideration.

He also admitted false accounting and charges relating to replica Home Office immigration stamps and having a false document.

Salaam,
@Khyber

Really a nice jolt.
On contrary, the F1 team of Ferrari has hired the crew from Karachi. These guys can change a tyre in a little over than 3 seconds. Just as much time as it took u to read the sentence. I think that Pakistani's have everything to amaze everyone !

@Najabat

Pakistani politics and cricket are alike.

@ Gr8khali

No. The prototype never get caught and jailed like many others.
