SC orders PM Ashraf to write Swiss letter

Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has ordered Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf to write the letter to Swiss authorities, requesting reopening of graft cases against President Zardari.

SC ordered the Prime Minister on Thursday to submit a rejoinder in this regard before July 25, 2012.

The apex court warned that action will be taken against the premier if he fails to comply with the order.

SC turned down the request of the government to adjourn the proceedings of that case until the end of summer holidays.

The court also stated that the court had taken notice of the statement issued by the Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira when he said that the constitution does not allow writing any letter to the Swiss authorities.

SC also said that it explicitly ordered former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani to write letter to the Swiss authorities but his refusal to do so led to his disqualification.
