as far as the training program is considered i've been thinking the same thing. as long as you don't have anything planned for the 6 months after the training starts, i'd reckon you go for it. and i agree with your opinion about Oil and Gas being a lucrative sector and there's a hint of possibility about being hired by OGDCL, itself. what i don't understand, why would a company spend so much on training when they don't want to hire, that doesn't make sense. companies usually want to retain their employees because of the time and resources spent on them, (at least that's what our books say)

other things you should consider
1. life in Islamabad - since i have lived most of my life in Karachi, it took me a while to settle here in Islamabad. socially its a dead city as you might have heard.
2. stipend - we don't know how much we'll be paid and would it be enough to cover our expenses at least.

i'd reckon, decide when you have the offer letter in your hand, it would be easier. no doubt this training seems promising in terms of learning and exposure. but everyone has his/her own issues and priorities therefore you are the best judge about your future's decision.
I guess for those who are jobless its a win win situation if they join the training...For others, they will have to ponder over their career objectives.

Having worked in credit rating company, OGDCL was our client. It is the largest local corporate in Pakistan, cash rich and government controlled. Being a government organisation you can expect them to impart training and then leave the candidates. Training expense will be peanuts for them and they will do it as corporate social responsibility to train human resource. I think it is an ideal opportunity for those who want a break through in the oil & gas sector. It will be tough initially but can be fruitful in the long run..I tell you these companies specially the foreign ones compensate their employees well. However, you can not expect much from OGDCL in monetory terms except being a good launching pad

so you mean to say that we should not pin our hopes with ogdcl regarding any kind of permanent job and further what i don't understand is why go through all the trouble of taking test conducting interviews and then call for an internship and that too only of 6 months while the whole process of recruitment it self takes about 4-5 months .any answer would be appreciated

on account of being this right it should be around 20,000 this time.

The said trainees were for 11 month training program. This is a 6 month training program so the stipend would be different I guess.

Oil and gas is a secialized sector and it is difficult for companies to find the right kind of people...I think OGDCL will train these candidates and give them preference for future jobs, if they apply. As for these candidates getting permanent, uptill now they have said that there is no guarantee for job. However, there is still almost a year to go when this training will finish. You never know vacancies may come later on and jobs are offered to some of the top candidates if not to everybody. Yes the future is uncertain but you will get training from the leading oil and gas exploration company of the country. Your employability is bound to improve in the sector. As I said it is a win win situation for the unemployed.
