Yes I've applied in NUST and also PIEAS. While I have some hopes from NUST I have little from PIEAS as the test went poor. Anyway I'm only interested in these two universities but the stipend is not attractive. Even if selected its five long years in poor pay and then again I'll be a fresh PhD overage to apply for any trainee programs. Working in academia for the rest of my life doesn't attract me very much although I'm aware that competition is getting tougher. You have any ideas where fresh PhDs can be inducted in any industry?
Higher studies in engineering beyond B.E are advisable if and only if you want to serve in the teaching line. The industrial sector neither requires nor encourages Ph.D engineers, as they prefer to hire B.E engineers in lesser salaries rather than paying enormous sums to the Ph.D engineers. Moreover, what's needed in the industry for managerial positions is experience, and not higher qualification. The main scope of Ph.D engineering is in multitude of public and private sector engineering universities in Pakistan.

I'm of the same opinion but what I don't understand is why many of my batch fellows are/have pursuing/done ms in engineering. I don't think everyone intends to go in teaching. Either they are looking for professorship or they're not telling me something I don't know. Ironically they all advise me against ms. I've also got conflicting advice from some seniors who advise doing ms before entering the already saturated job market. Sadly I'm one of those who have no references inside the relevant industry so I've very few choice to choose from.:(
Personally I've no desire to go beyond ms.

Brother you are very much confused between doing a job or pursuing higher education.both have their pron & cons now it is up to you where you want to see yourself in future, if you want to be at a managerial level in an industry go for the job, if you wanna serve into academia or wanna join research organizations like Nescom/Suparco/Paec go towards PHD.Let me tell you it is not that easy thing to do PHD.it requires a lot patience but in the end you get fruitful result.so think over it again and make your decision then start your efforts for making your Dreams come true..

Avoid regular use of "Netspeak" or other "cute" grammar or spelling (For example: writing "R U a woman?" instead of "Are You a woman?")

Users should not post a topic/reply in CAPITALS, the reason being is that this is considered as shouting.
