help about computer simulations
being a new member and a geek, i read nearly 180 threads... i found that very talented reasonable and knowlegable persons are here... besides i m keeping computer sciences as an optional..
but i m also thinking about developing a computer simulations in forestry as they are developed in many many fields... can any one help me with models and algorithms??? |

Computer simulations are inteligent and complex programs that predict the output for variable inputs. For example it is used in assesing risk factors in production of vehicles, by simulating test drives. And is used in astronomy, as well as in forecasting weather conditions by inputing humidity, speed of wind current temprature etc, i want it to make for managment purposes undr difrnt circumstances. What i need is links to books, about algorithms, and software used for making simulations.. So that i can code it

Sir i want to do as, there is a forest type, managed under a silvicultural system, what grade of thining felling and logging and regeneration wil have what type of effect on water shed, runoff erosion and associated wildlyf.
2nd objective, u must b aware of vegetation shift due to global warming, what will be the effect of increase in temprature on these plants and forests. How much will a forest type will move with particular increase? 3rd. Simulator about desertification. Deserts are growing. In how much time, with the temprature, the tropical areas will be vegetation less? I gud in programing, i have passion for it. I knw cplusplus and java.. Along with data structures.. Bt i can code better in cpp... Curently working with visual studio.. Sire, wil my skills suffice? What i Need more to do? Can u help?

Simulators r just a representation or application of mathematics for a specific problem domain. I think you need to work on the science of all this. You firstly need to work for the formulae and claculations u need to predict. Firstl u have to predict using paper-pencil, and after that u will be able to program it..!! Regarding ur skills, they are good as u told, u just need to have knowledge of some graphics platform for graphical representation if u wish. With C++ you can use OpenGL by using glut library. Firstly make the theory, then find out whether u need some graphical representation or not, then if needed learn OpenGL programming and have some computer graphics concepts.
