Default The role of the human brain

Humans(Homo sapiens) are the "thinking species".This facility resides in our brains but the fundamental role of the brain is to coordinate and control the activities of the body. The brain controls all body funtions except those under the control of simple spinal reflexes. How is this acheived???
1
The brain receives impulses from sensory receptors.
The embryonic regions of the brain connect with the principal sense organs .That is,the forebrain is concerned with smell, the midbrain with sight and the hindbrain with balance .The adult human brain , when fully developed ,recieves impulses from the whole body via the spinal cord and the twelve pairs of caranial nerves.these caranail nerves connect the brain to the sense organs and the muscles of the head and, via the vagus nerve , to the internal organs.
2
In the association centres the brain integrates and correlates the incoming information from different sense organs.
By integration we mean that the impulses coming in simultaneously from different sense organs are interrerted.Impulses are correlated with experience within stored memory. The brain has the ability to rehearse the possible consequences of different responses.Integration of stimuli is an essential prelude to coordination of body activities and functions.
3
The brain initiates activity by sending impulses to the effector organs (muscles and glands)causing them to function
Impulses from the association and motor centres coordinate bodily activities so that the complete range of mechanisms and chemical reactions work effectiently together.
4
The brain stores information and builds up the memory bank of past experiences in a form that is normally accessible for future reference.
5
The brain also initiate impulses from its own self contained activity , as some idea suddenly occurs , or a problem is resolved , or another experience is remembered for its relevance. The brain is the seat of the "personality"and the emotions. It is the brain that enables us to imagine , to create , to plan , to calculate and to predict.Various forms of absract reasoning are conducted in the brain.
