Should we rejoice?

TOMORROW, August 14, will be a day of celebration (of sorts) for the 170 million-odd citizens of this Republic, many of them homeless, hungry and, above all, thirsty. On the 59th anniversary of Independence we continue to be ruled by a vast government made up of members of dubious political parties all of whom claim to have ‘vision’ (of grandeur, no doubt, and of nothing else).

Should we rejoice that we have managed to survive for 59 years, or should we hang down our combined heads in shame and disgrace at what we have made of this country, and how we have betrayed and mocked its founder and maker, the unique Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

I think on the great day of independance, our elecrtonic and print media should support LEBANON in all the very best way; coupling the spirit of celebrations with the flames of unity for the Muslim world!

Hiii all

Dont would we be able to do something for the sake of Pakistan and muslim ummah or not but at least we should pray and hope for the best. Just pray to God for a bright and secure tommorow for all Pakistanis and Muslim ummah. May God put our country and whole Muslim Ummah on the right path, the path which leads to prosperity and success in this world and hereafter. .... ... .... .....amin

tomorrow we will b celebrating 59th independence day of our home land inshAllah ...looking back at these 59 years can we say wid pride dat yes we have done sumthg for our homeland ??...just turning our tv channels green n decorating our offices n houses wid our national flags will not serve the purpose .... we have to say NO to corruption n to all other evils so as to see our homeland progressing in all fields ...what we can do particularly on independence day is to pray for brighter future of pakistan ..may Allah help all of us ..ameen

I think this one will also be like all the other past celebrated Independence Days. we call is Indeendence day but are we sure that we are independent or free to do whatever we want. are we really on the path our forefathers out us into, are we even close to what the liberators of our nation dreamt of a nation to be? and most of all are we even entitled to celebrate the Independence day of Pakistan, what have we done for this country, do we even respect our flag the way it should be respected. What we do need is action from every one of us. the "duaas" wont work if there is no "dawaa". To hell with the people who say that " iss qoum ka kuch nahi ho gaa". "kiun nahi hogaa" is the question "hoga aur zaroor hoga aur hum mill ker iss mulk ko taraqqi ki bulandion takk le ker jain ge, aur baaqi qoumain hum per rashk kareain gee" Insha Allah. This is the day we take promise from ourselves that we'll do what this land expects from us. what the shedded blood of our parents demands us to do. Every new day will be a better, brighter and a step foreward in every aspect becuz we are Pakistanis and we are proud of bieng a Pakistani.

The best way to celebrate our Independence Day?

I think best way to Celeberate Independence Day is to remember our Heroes of Freedon Struggle with the Spirit of their Struggle, not with the spirit of spending the money over useless parties and fucntions of elite class alien to Islamic traditions. Celeberation must be based of self sarcifice and self accountability!
