The Lahore High Court has directed Pakistani authorities to block access to all websites, including Facebook, that are involved in "spreading religious hatred" and to submit a compliance report by October 6.

In an order issued yesterday, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed directed the Information Technology Ministry to "deny access to all websites in Pakistan involved in spreading religious hatred".

However, the judge directed the ministry that access to Google or other search engines should not be denied. He directed the authorities to submit a report on the implementation of the court’s order by October 6.

The judge issued the order in response to a petition seeking a permanent ban on US-based Facebook for hosting a competition on blasphemous caricatures of Prophet Mohammed.

Lawyer Muhammad Azhar Siddique, who had filed the petition, said Islamic values were being insulted in the name of access to information and this was hurting the feeling of billions of Muslims across the world.

Despite an earlier order of the High Court, the Information Technology Ministry had not blocked websites spreading religious hatred, Siddique claimed.

Siddique also asked the court to direct the federal government to stop the display of material considered blasphemous by any religion or insulting to the Prophet Mohammed on all websites in Pakistan.

He said the government should be directed to establish a permanent authority with legal status, which could monitor such "objectionable activities" across the world.

Pakistani authorities had briefly barred access to Facebook last year on the orders of the Lahore High Court.
I think all the Muslims in the world are fool. If non-Muslims does not allow them to use modern technology independently or they use this technology to demoralize and install hate in the sited, they need to invent there own technology.
We must not only get red from google, facebook etc. but also give a new theme to the world. I do not against IT but its use possesses very devastating effects especially Muslim youth.
I therefore, requests the CJoP to issue orders to block the sites containing blasphemous material as well as porn videos from internet pages.

Actually we can not yet recognize the enemies and friends of ours. We are commanded by the puppets of world powers. So every one is in the state chaos.

If blasphemous material manage to appear on face book or any other site what is the solution to make Muslim calm at all?? I seek your opinion.

Religious Liberty is everyones right According to the Intenational CHarter, and one must not harm the feeling of others by reffering to his/her religion. So if it happens this is the responsibility of our High ups to call on UN agianst that state who promtes such activities. The people can make non violent agitation. If despite this nothing fruitful comeout so the state must cutoff diplomatic, Business/trade relations and ask the international community to do so with that particular country.
There are other immoarl sites on internet, why the judges dont go against those?

Any sensible person will not favor this illogical and useless decision. I wonder what judges had in mind that made them to make this decision. :S

Not all the Muslims around the world are fools. In fact, if one tends to put a single Question regarding the "role model" in front of any Muslim, irrespective of his/her sect, living in any part of the globe, I am dead sure the answer of the entire Muslim population would revolve around a single prestigious personality: the holy prophet Mohammed (may peace and blessings be upon him). So, definitely no one can tolerate the blasphemous acts on the part of any non-believer.But prohibition of such acts may not be brought about by banning a couple of sites.

Indeed it is synonymous to depriving the countrymen's access to many other valuable sources of knowledge. And without knowledge no one can fully understand the ideals of Islam; its following apart.

Other means should be sought to discourage such acts. International community should be consulted and the voice must be raised in front of UN. Similarly, trade with the countries patronizing such moves should be cut-off until the issue is redressed. All this may prove fruitful to acquire the desired results.

The evolutionary process has transformed the whole world. The journey that the noble creatures started from stone age has passed both the agricultural and Industrial eras. It now has approached the Technological times. And the nations that keep abreast of time are destined to be civilized in all manners. The social networks (including facebook) are the valuable sources, if positively availed, to get to the acme of superior knowledge and prosperity.

Regards . . .

Supreme Court has many other fields to address . Banning Face book on religious ground is not a good decision .It is a good medium to meet with friends and Family .

Not a worthy thing to discuss. In my opinion whether banned or unbanned it will make no difference at all. So laugh it out.:laughing

Our imaan should not be so vulnerable or shakeable that it finds itself in jeopardy from social networking websites or any other trivial matter. In my opinion LHC's decision is lopesided. If at all it is sincere with the cause of elimination of objectionable stuff from the internet, all the pornographic material should have been banned altogether by now. But alas, Goal dispacement is characteristic of Pakistani Institutions. Let us hope sanity prevails and issues of genuine nature are adreesed without resorting to such illogical judements.
